Como saben desde hace un tiempo vengo incursionando en las muñecas de tela, recien me dedique a explorar mi propio patrón y diseños, hoy les traigo la muestra de mi Frida Kahlo en honor a que este es su mes de nacimiento y fallecimiento, justo un día como hoy parte de este mundo.
As you know, for some time I have been dabbling in fabric dolls, I just started to explore my own pattern and designs. Today I bring you the sample of my Frida Kahlo in honor that this is the month of her birth and death, just a day like today part of this world.
Cada año me reconcilio más con esta mujer, desde el amor y la pasión, de hecho ha sido impulso a darme más permiso de creerme artista y contribuir más en este mundo con mis creaciones, pues el arte es la interpretación de la realidad plasmada en el lienzo de tu preferencia, en este caso mi primera muñeca profesional de Frida Kahlo.
Every year I reconcile more with this woman, from love and passion, in fact it has been an impulse to give me more permission to believe myself as an artist and contribute more in this world with my creations, because art is the interpretation of reality captured on the canvas of your choice, in this case my first professional doll of Frida Kahlo.
Ante todo vamos con los materiales: tela lienzo para la piel, tela de algodon y satin para el vestido, cinta de raso, estambre, pintura, tijera, hilo, aguja, máquina de coser, y algodón para rellenar, papel o cartón para el patrón, alfileres, pinceles y silicon, las características claves para el personaje elegido, en este caso Frida Kahlo.
First of all let's go with the materials: canvas fabric for the skin, cotton and satin fabric for the dress, satin ribbon, yarn, paint, scissors, thread, needle, sewing machine, and cotton for stuffing, paper or cardboard for the pattern, pins, brushes and silicone, the key features for the chosen character, in this case Frida Kahlo.
El primer paso fue tomar muchas referencias y perfilar el patrón a mi estilo, así lo posé encima de la tela y corte el cuerpo con las piernas pegadas y los brazos, estos últimos separados del cuerpo, luego con ayuda de un palo delgado rellena todas partes con cuidado de cubrir todo los espacios logrando una una firmeza suave.
The first step was to take many references and outline the pattern to my style, so I put it on top of the fabric and cut the body with the legs attached and arms, the latter separated from the body, then with the help of a thin stick fills all parts with care to cover all the spaces achieving a smooth firmness.
Para esta muñeca de Frida Kahlo me tome el tiempo de darle cada detalle, sin embargo considero que para el rostro me tome más tiempo, antes de esto, cerré con firmeza los lados por donde llené: la cabeza con costura a mano y los brazos a máquina, ahora si a la pintura; con un lápiz trace primero las cejas que es una de las cosas más llamativas de esta artista, luego los ojos y los labios.
For this Frida Kahlo doll I took the time to give her every detail, however I consider that for the face I took more time, before this, I closed firmly the sides where I filled: the head with hand stitching and the arms by machine, now if to the painting; with a pencil I trace first the eyebrows which is one of the most striking things of this artist, then the eyes and lips.
Para pintar el rostro, comencé por lo más característicos, las cejas, primero una línea ondulada y luego trazo por trazo con pintura de tela, para los ojos, el primer paso fue de adentro hacia afuera, iris en negro, luego alrededor marron y por ultimo lo blanco con las pestañas.
To paint the face, I started with the most characteristic, the eyebrows, first a wavy line and then stroke by stroke with fabric paint, for the eyes, the first step was from the inside out, iris in black, then around brown and finally the white with the eyelashes.
Para la boca, rellene todos los labios con rojo y con negro delinee, para toques de iluminación use blanco en puntos especificos como ven en la imagen y tambien trabaje la tonalidad de la piel con un sombreado de pintura un poco mas subido que el de la tela piel, logrando asi este hermoso rostro de Frida Kahlo.Con esto de pintar el rostro y lograr ese resultado puedo entender cuando dijo que la pintura la llenaba. ”
For the mouth, I filled all the lips with red and with black outline, for highlights I used white in specific points as you can see in the image and I also worked the skin tone with a paint shading a little higher than that of the skin fabric, achieving this beautiful face of Frida Kahlo, with this painting of the face and achieving this result I can understand when she said that the paint filled her.
Luego fue el turno del cabello, primero corte y cosi lo suficiente de hilo estambre que cubra toda su cabeza y el largo, así, lo pegue con costura y silicón, una vez todo bien fijado, hice unas trenzas junto a una cinta raso, emulando el tan conocido peinado de Frida, así con ayuda alfileres ajuste y cosí todo para que quede fijo, para complementar le hice 3 flores de la misma cinta y “voilá”.
Then it was the turn of the hair, first I cut and sewed enough stamen thread to cover all her head and the length, so, I glued it with sewing and silicone, once everything was well fixed, I made some braids with a satin ribbon, emulating the so well known Frida's hairstyle, so with the help of pins I adjusted and sewed everything to fix it, to complement it I made 3 flowers with the same ribbon and "voila".
Acto seguido el traje de Frida Kahlo, bien sabemos que esta mujer usaba mucho color sólido con estampados, y asi mismo hice, elegí una tela de flores y mariposas para la falda, la cual corte en rectángulo, cosi los borde y luego fruncí con una elástica por la cintura. Para la parte de arriba corté y cosí 2 rectángulos de la medida de su torso, después cosí a la falda, para el toque final alrededor de la cintura le hice un cinturón con cinta y un lazo atrás, también procure pintarle unos zapatos.
I chose a fabric with flowers and butterflies for the skirt, which I cut into rectangles, sewed the edges and then gathered it with an elastic around the waist. For the top I cut and sewed 2 rectangles the size of her torso, then I sewed to the skirt, for the final touch around the waist I made a belt with ribbon and a bow at the back, I also tried to paint some shoes for her.
Y así mi homenaje a la Frida, quien más allá de reafirmar mi arte, me ha llevado a la determinación que ser apasionada está bien y si se quiere vivir del arte hay que tomarlo en serio, a veces bajarle al romanticismo o al hippismo y darle la profesionalización que amerita. And so my tribute to Frida, who beyond reaffirming my art, has led me to the determination that being passionate is fine and if you want to make a living from art you have to take it seriously, sometimes lower the romanticism or hippies thoughts and give it the professionalism it deserves.
