My favorite fabric store will close in the end of the month. The owner mentioned that her business during COVID lockdown was extremely tough. It is really sad that COVID restrictions took a toll on small shops ...
Today my daughter and I went for (probably) the last shopping to the store and say bye bye to the nice kind shop owner.
I have good old memories with the store. When I visited the store for the first time, my daughter was few months old and in a baby wrap. I wanted to sew something for her. At the shop, I learned that I can sew elastic fabric with my basic sewing machine. I cannot imagine the store won't be there next month 😢
Today we bought ocean creature fabric for my daughter's pajama (her most favorite animal is starfish), blue fabric for waistband and cuffs, and earrings. Some have ocean motives: my daughter's pajama fabric and my anchor earrings.
Ocean reminds me my grandfather who was a captain of container ships. I went to go on ship and fishing a lot with him. My daughter has never met him but somehow she feels connections to him and ocean. She believes that she can talk to her grand grand father with her small starfish plush starfish (it started from my joke ...).
So now I feel a bit sentimental. I wish the store owner can take rest after she closes her current shop. Thank you a lot to her and her shop that they motivated me to sew my daughter's clothes.
行きつけの生地屋さんが今月いっぱいで閉店することになりました。コロナウィルスの蔓延期のロックダウン中は営業できず非常に経営が厳しかったとオーナーが言ってました。ロックダウンなどで小さなお店にしわよせがいってしまったのは本当に悲しいことです。
今日、子どもと一緒に（多分）最後の買い物に行き、親切なオーナーにさよならを言いました。初めてこの生地屋さんを訪れた時、子どもはまだ生後数ヶ月で、子どもはベビーラップで私にぶら下がって寝ていました。基本的なミシンで伸縮性のある生地を教えてくれたのもこのお店のオーナーです。来月はもうこの生地屋さんがないと思うととても寂しいです。
今日は子どものパジャマ用に海の生き物の生地（一番好きな動物はヒトデ w）、ウエストや手首や足首に使う青い布、イヤリングを購入しました。
子どものパジャマの生地や私の錨のピアスなどは海のモチーフのもので、なんとなくコンテナ船の船長だった祖母の思い出から手にしたのかもしれません。祖父とはよく船や釣りに出かけました。子どもは祖父に会ったことはありませんが、なぜか祖父と海に縁を感じているようで、海の生き物や水が大好きです。
そんなこんなで少し感傷的になっています。せめてオーナーが今のお店を閉めた後ゆっくり休めますように。子どもの服を縫うモチベーションを与えてくれたお店＆オーナー、本当にありがとうございました。
