Good morning Needle workers..
It's a brand new week and we must begin with a positive mindset, by setting our priorities right and achievable goals, on that note.. I wish you a great week.
So, last week Tuesday, I had an amazing client who came along with her sister as they were both wedding guests for their cousin's wedding which was on Saturday.
I had just three days to work on their fabrics.
I've known one of the ladies for over two years now as I've been making clothes occasionally for her, something I noticed was, if the gathering was to be an elaborate one she comes to my outlet to make dresses but if it's just walk around she patronizes other fashion designers in her neighbourhood.
In her words, I make sophisticated outfits but it's quite expensive, hehe.. Good food deserves good spending not so?
She told me how she wanted to replace me last year because she felt someone else could do the same job I did for a lesser price but the outcome of the dress broke her heart.
"I'm back here Amie, I don't mind the charge now, I just want to look good," Mimi said.
One thing Mimi is known for is never choosing a style for herself as she leaves that part for me to decide, trusting whatever I design will fit her.
"I've hyped you so much, that is why I brought my sister along to make her dress here too, so these are our fabrics, do your thing!" She dropped the fabrics on my work table and asked me to measure her and her sister before leaving.
She brought in just the lace and I thought of a nice fabrics to match them together.
This why fashion designers need to be good at combinations as it's part of our job description.
Here are the fabrics I bought alongside the lace fabric.
Velvet..
Trimmings.
Zippers.
Linings...
I started with the velvet which will be used for the upper bodice my drafting her body measurement.
After drafting the measurement I needed, I cut it out as seen in this picture.
Here I arranged the two clients' fabrics cut out ready to begin with one at a time.
I started placing the trimmings on the princess dart for the front bodice as seen in these pictures.
Then I placed the lower bodice which was an A line cut out and attached it.
Here I've attached the front upper bodice to the front lower bodice.
I did the same for the back piece as seen in the picture.
Here I showed what the inseam looked like, outfits shouldn't only be neat on the outside but the same should go for the inside.
When I was 80% done with the first one, I headed to the sister's fabrics as seen here.
I did the same thing with the sister's fabrics since it was the same style but decided to put a touch of difference when I was done.
Can you spot the difference?
After the outfit was ready, I took shots of them and sent them to them via WhatsApp but the you get sister asked me to change the sleeve and make it exactly like her sisters.
And so I did exactly what I was told to do because the joy of making outfits lies in the satisfaction of my clients.
And tada.....
Here are the two dresses.
Different sides of the dresses.
From her smile, you can tell she loved her dress, her sister was too busy and didn't take a shot, however, you can tell she would be looking stunning too from her Sister's outfit.
What do you think about the combination, would you rock this colour?
After the wedding, I asked her for feedback on her dress and here's her response.
It's very good to develop more than a client relationship with our clients, we should also be their friends to get feedback from them.
This will be all for now, thanks for your time on my blog.
