Yahoo! I feel so happy. π I am finally able to finish a crocheted house sandals for my little man. Ever since I started learning how to crochet last year, making slippers has been one of my "dream" projects. It all started when my rubber flip-flops broke and I thought of remaking it into a crocheted masterpiece.
Well I still haven't completed that slippers of mine but today I am happy to share what I have made for my Little man.
Finding The Pattern
It has not been easy to find a pattern to follow because I normally just refer to free tutorials I can find in YouTube or pinterest. Some are too complicated for me to follow or there is not a size that fits my son.
Another reason is I am always looking for a pattern in which I can use the yarn available to me.
A few weeks back, I decided to follow a pattern to make everything (including soles) and here's what I achieved. π
Since my yarn is too thin the sole I made only fitted half the sole of my kiddo. Needless to say, I abandoned this project. Haha.
Last Saturday, I decided to finally go to the yarn shop to get some skeins for this sandals project and other projects in mind. I found this nice teal chunky yarn and decided it would be fit for the job.
Also, instead of making the soles from scratch, I salvaged these rubber soles from the old sandals of my eldest. That's half the job done. Clap! Clap! Clever, clever, Arlyn. π
Let's start working!
First, I had to cut the rubber soles to fit my son's feet. The soles are still big for him so I had to cut off about half an inch from the original size. Then, I use this pointy thingy (sorry, I really don't know what this is called. π ) that I found inside my sewing kit to poke holes around the sides of the rubber soles. This is where I would crochet.
I had to use 3.5mm hook to single crochet around the rubber soles because I was afraid to break it if I were to use a big hook.
After completing this round, my girl commented that I should use the clean side up so I flipped the stitches and this left sole became the right sole.
For the second round I already used a 10mm hook. It is finished in no time.
I met a slight mishap as I was doing the second sole because I used the 3.5mm hook throughout the two rounds! After I finished the second round of the other half I thought I just made my tension tighter but I realized quickly enough that I used the wrong hook.
It was late and I cannot think straight anymore so I set the work aside for the night and continued the next day. Though I was tempted to keep the second half as it was, I still frogged the second round and used the 10mm hook.
The leaf of the sandals should not have been this crossed pattern at first. I originally followed a pattern with closed top but when I finished, it was too wide for my son's foot.
Again, I frogged that part and settled in making it simple with two strips of half double crochets.
And here it is! My son's new sandals. Let's get walking!
Little Miss, artistic as she is, suggested that we decorate this pair of sandals with a monster (Monster Inc, perhaps?) design or something similar. I told her I'll see what I can do but she just gave me an idea that I will pimp her sandals instead. π
