[ENG/ESP] Second achievement of my Bucket List and first Amigurumi. /Segundo logro de mi Bucket List y primer Amigurumi.

I can describe the accumulation of emotions I feel at this moment in just one word: Happiness! Several weeks ago I presented my bucket list for this year in which I included making my first Amigurumi. If I confess something, I felt some anxiety when I thought about this goal. For me it is an art to make all kinds of three-dimensional figures with just crochet and yarn and it seemed to me that it was too ambitious a project, even so, I was dying to make even a small circumference.

Puedo describir el cúmulo de emociones que siento en este momento en una sola palabra: Felicidad!. Hace varias semanas que presenté mi lista de cosas por hacer durante este año en las que incluí elaborar mi primer Amigurumi. Si les confieso algo, sentía algo de ansiedad cuando pensaba en este objetivo. Para mí es todo un arte elaborar con solo ganchillo e hilo todo tipo de figuras tridimensionales y me parecía que era un proyecto demasiado ambicioso, aún así, moría de ganas por hacer aunque fuera una pequeña circunferencia.

Before I started working on it I invested a few hours watching Youtube videos on the subject. I knew that these wonderful figures are knit in a different stitch than what is normally used in crochet. This had me both integrated and paralyzed, because I did not dare to give my first stitch, until I got a video where they explained the so-called X stitch, and it is nothing more than passing the thread loading the crochet hook from front to back and not as we do it traditionally.

Antes de empezar a trabajar en ello invertí unas cuantas horas mirando videos en Youtube sobre el tema. Sabía que estás maravillosas figuras se tejen en un punto distinto al que normalmente se usa en crochet. Esto me tenía tanto integrada como paralizada, pues no me atrevía a dar mi primera puntada, hasta que conseguí un vídeo donde explicaban el llamado punto de X, y no es más que pasar el hilo cargando el ganchillo de adelante hacia atrás y no como lo hacemos tradicionalmente.

On the other hand I had doubts about the increases and decreases to form the round figures, but it was also easy to understand the procedure. What was not so easy was to put into practice all that I had received as information and although a little dazed I started my work.

Por otro lado tenía dudas sobre los aumentos y las disminuciones para formar las figuras redondas, pero también fue fácil entender el procedimiento. Lo que no me resultó tan fácil fue poner en práctica todo lo que había recibido como información y aunque un poco aturdida empecé mi trabajo.

I chose to make a small elephant with a ballerina skirt. As I mentioned I had seen a lot of material and had a compilation of various patterns. I had limitations on each piece as I began to work on it. I couldn't get my X stitches to look uniform and this is because I was pressing differently on each stitch. On the other hand, although it was clear to me that if I started with a multiple of 6 in the first row, for the second row I had to increase the double and from then on 6 stitches in the following rows, even so I always had the doubt if I had counted since I was knitting in spiral and I did not know where each row ended, I saw the light when I took a look at the back of the fabric and I could clearly see the starting point and from there a line of X in diagonal that indicated me where everything started.

Elegí hacer una pequeña elefante con falda de bailarina. Como ya les he mencionado había visto mucho material y tenía un compilado de varios modelos. Tuve limitaciones en cada pieza al momento de empezar a trabajarla. No lograba que mis puntos en X se vieran en forma uniforme y esto se debe a que ejercía presión de manera diferente al realizar cada punto. Por otro lado aunque tenía claro que sí empezaba con múltiplo de 6 en la primera vuelta, para la segunda debía aumentar el doble y de allí en adelante 6 puntos en las vueltas siguientes, aún así siempre tenía la duda de si había contado correctamente ya que iba tejiendo en espiral y no sabía dónde terminaba cada vuelta, ví la luz cuando le di un vistazo al reverso del tejido y se veía claramente en punto de inicio y de allí partía una línea de X en diagonal que me indicaba donde comenzaba todo.

Now I will explain the process of making it. Keep in mind that this is my first amigurumi and don't be too picky. Although if there is a tough judge with me, it's me. I will give you in summary the stitches I made in each piece.

Ahora les explicaré el proceso de realización. Tengan presente que es mi primer amigurumi y no sean demasiado duros. Aunque si hay un juez duro conmigo, esa soy yo. Les daré en resumen los puntos que realicé en cada pieza.

For the head: 8 starting stitches in a magic ring. Then 16 low stitches in the second round. For the third, 3 single crochet plus 1 increase, in between. In the fourth row, 4 single crochets and an increase and so on until we reach row 7. Then 7 rows of single crochets without increases and then decreases; we start with 7 single crochets and a decrease, in the next row, 6 single crochets and a decrease, and so on until we reach the minimum and leave the opening to fill in.

Para la cabeza: 8 puntos de inicio en un anillo mágico. Luego 16 puntos bajos en la segunda vuelta. Para la tercera, 3 puntos bajos más 1 aumento, intercalados. En la cuarta vuelta, 4 puntos bajos y un aumento y así sucesivamente hasta llegar a la vuelta 7. Seguidamente 7 vueltas de puntos bajos sin aumentos y luego las disminuciones; empezamos con 7 puntos bajos y una disminución, en la siguiente vuelta, 6 puntos bajos y una disminución, así sucesivamente hasta que se llegue al mínimo y dejamos la abertura para rellenar.

For the legs and arms we make a magic ring with 6 single crochet stitches, then 1 single crochet plus an increase. From the third round onwards we knit single crochet if you increase until the desired length is reached. For the trunk we start with 6 single crochet stitches and then the next round the same amount of stitches but passing the yarn only behind the stitch so that the line that marks the tip of the trunk remains. In the 9th round we make the increases until we reach the 15th round.

Para las piernas y brazos hacemos un anillo mágico con 6 puntos bajos, luego 1 punto bajo más un aumento. De la tercera vuelta en adelante se tejen puntos bajos si aumentas hasta completar el largo deseado. Para la trompa comenzamos con 6 puntos bajos y luego la siguiente vuelta la misma cantidad de puntos pero pasando la hebra solo por detrás del punto para que quede la línea que marca la punta de la trompa en la vuelta 9 se hacen los aumentos hasta llegar a la vuelta 15.

The body is made with yellow macramé yarn and on the circumference made with 6 single crochet stitches at the base, an increase to 12 stitches in the second row and then an increase every 3 single crochets and 4 stitches plus an increase in the fourth row. Three rounds in a row of single crochet and then decreases. I made a tutu with pink crochet thread and also used it on the ears with a grey wool border.

El cuerpo lo hacemos con hilo macramé amarillo y en la circunferencia hecha con 6 puntos bajos en la base, un aumento a 12 puntos en la segunda vuelta y luego un aumento cada 3 puntos bajos y 4 puntos más un aumento en la cuarta vuelta. Tres vueltas seguidas de puntos bajos y luego las disminuciones. Realicé un tutú con hilo para crochet color rosa y también lo utilicé en las orejas con un borde en lana gris.

The most complex part in my opinion is to join all the pieces together. Here I didn't even know how to hold the needle. I was stuffing the head and then I realized I had to put the eyes first. These little eyes are brooch style and once you put the lid on you can't open them, I discovered this late, so I was afraid that my elephant would be left with some strabismus. Luckily I was able to position the trunk so that it would make sense to me and not be out of square. I was filling and sewing the pieces as I could, honestly I could not match the points of one piece and another exactly. Maybe later I will be able to do it, and this with a lot of practice. When I was sewing the legs I realized that my little daughter had cut the excess thread that was left to sew the pieces together. I panicked, but solved the problem by tying the yarn to a point at the edge and then threading the needle.

La parte más compleja en mi opinión es unir todas las piezas. Aquí no sabía ni como agarrar la aguja. Estaba rellena la cabeza cuando me di cuenta que debía colocar los ojos primero. Estos ojitos son estilo broche y una vez que se coloca la tapa ya no se puede abrir, esto lo descubrí tarde, por lo que temía que me elefante quedara con algo de estrabismo. Con suerte pude colocar la trompa en posición de manera que me quedara con sentido lógico y no descuadrada. Fui rellenando y cosiendo las piezas como pude, sinceramente no pude hacer coincidir los puntos de una pieza y otra de manera exacta. Quizás más adelante lo consiga y esto con mucho práctica. Al momento de coser las patas me di cuenta que mi hijita había cortado el hilo excedente que quedaba para ir cosiendo las piezas. Entre en pánico, pero resolví el problema amarrando la lana a un punto al borde y luego enhebrando la aguja.

At the last minute we attached eyelashes and eyebrows with sewing thread and some small yellow flowers on one ear. It took me three days to make my cute elephant, I must clarify that I worked a few hours in the morning, but I think I progressed fast, and with practice I will be able to do it faster and faster.

Al último momento colocamos pestañas y cejas con hilo de coser y unas pequeñas flores amarillas sobre una oreja. Me tomó tres días hacer mi linda elefante, debo aclarar que trabajaba unas pocas horas en la mañana, pero creo que avancé rápido, y con la práctica podré hacerlo cada vez rápido y preciso.

My daughter who was always hovering around me because she knew something beautiful was forming and that it was probably for her, when she finally saw the completed elephant, she was laughing with excitement and we both enjoyed that moment to the fullest. I am still elated about my first amigurumi and if there is one thing I am sure of, this is the beginning of a great adventure with this wonderful technique. Mi hija que siempre estuvo revoloteando a mi alrededor porque sabía que algo bonito se estaba formando y que probablemente era para ella, cuando al fin vio la elefante completa, se reía de emoción y ambas disfrutamos al máximo ese momento. Yo aún estoy eufórica por mi primer amigurumi y si de algo estoy segura que este es el comienzo de una gran aventura con esta maravillosa técnica.
