My wife surprised the kids with velvet materials, and while she’s busy making a gorgeous gown for the girls, I decided to get creative with the boys’ fabric. I’ve always loved the rich look of velvet, and the deep color of the material sparked an idea: a stylish dansiki and trouser set for my little boy.
I’ve danced around sewing projects before, but this time I felt inspired. The soft sheen of the velvet seemed to demand something classic and difficult yet a perfect fit for a young boy’s energy. I sketched a simple design: a fitted dansiki with paired with matching trousers that would let him move freely. The goal was to capture that effortless blend of traditional charm and modern style that velvet brings.
Working with velvet isn’t always straightforward, but I wanted the texture to shine. I kept the cuts clean and opted for subtle detailing tiny pocket on the trouser, maybe a contrasting thread for the seams. The fabric felt luxurious in my hands, and as the pieces came together, I could see my boy’s face light up in my mind.
A sharp, comfy outfit that feels like it was made for twirling and playing. My wife glanced at the outfit and smiled apparently, I didn’t mess it up much (she’s making sure I get the credit for the design, haha). Now the kids are matching in their velvet finery, and I’m thinking of sneaking in a “proud dad” photo shoot.
To be sincere the material look lovely but the sewing is very stressful, first time sewing such materials, was fed up some points cos i just realized the more i sew the longer the fabric. Kudos to all fashion designer dealing with this kind of stretch materials.
