Hello everyone
A beautiful Monday to you all , it my pleasure to be here today to share with you the making of this outfit for my niece.
Victoria is my sister's first daughter, she is a student at the University of ilorin, she will be rounding up her program this year and for this reason, a week was set aside for the students for various activities to take place for the celebration of their success. For the whole week, the students will have to wear different outfits, different outfit for each day, for this reason, they were to put on native wear on a particular day so, my niece contacted me to make an outfit for her.
She has two other friends of which they agreed to make same style of outfit, but she only brought hers to me of course she knew she wasn't going to pay for it, well that is what you have to sacrifice when you have younger ones around you to make outfit for 🤣🤣🤣 the only thing was that she brought the fabric and the floral material used for the yoke and sleeves.
For the final year week native outfit, she sent the style to me and I make sure I made what she sent to me for her and I'm so glad with the outcome.
To get started with
First was to draft the upper bodice of a princess dart bustier with yoke on a brown paper, which was set aside before being duplicated on the main fabric. After drafting out the pattern, I took the main fabric to cut out the lower part of the dress which was a pencil gown. The fabric was folded in two to cut out the front part of the lower bodice using her waist, hip and full length measurement as well as the horizontal measurement with seam allowance.
The front part was placed on a folded fabric to cut out the back part of the dress with zipper allowance.
Then the remaining fabric was used to cut out the upper bodice which was drafted on a brown paper.
On the yoke, I used a black floral material for the yoke at the front and back.
All the pieces cut out were neatly sewn and turned inside out with lining, except for the yoke and sleeves which I used a floral lace for
The dress was set aside as I proceeded to make the stylish sleeve, the sleeves is actually a basic straight sleeve but with a 360° flare at the wrist cover the fingers downward and at the shoulder having a little pleated 90° flare which was also sewn to the armhole area to make a complete outfit.
As simple as that, here is my niece and her two other friends with their Ankara outfit on their final year native day at school.
