Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. Today I'll be sharing a piece I made that was inspired by someone on IG, someone who I am unable to identify at the moment.
I stumbled upon the piece while scrolling through my Instagram page and I said to myself, "I have to make this too." So I took a screenshot of the piece so I could replicate it or so I thought.
A few days ago I decided to start working on the piece. However, I could not find the screenshot I took. Turns out I saved it in my head and not my phone! I freaked out. I abandoned every hope of ever making the top and proceeded to continue working on the sweater that is halfway done.
Well if I tell you I couldn't leave it alone, believe me. Because a few minutes later I went back to my phone and started aggressively searching for that one picture again. Now I could remember a little bit of what the top looked like but I didn't exactly pay attention to the details.
How was I going to recreate something I can't remember? Well, what could go wrong? I asked myself. In the best-case scenario, I make something slightly different but still beautiful. Worst case scenario I flop and try again.
So, I got the required hook for the top. If you know me you'll know I'm not the best at combining colors, so it did take a while to figure out what colors I wanted to use but eventually, I went for different shades of brown and gold.
I can't remember if the lady used regular granny squares or sunburst but I wanted to go for sunburst, so yeah I used the sunburst granny square. The first square I made was a little too small. I used a 3.5mm hook for that one, so I decided to change the hook size to make it bigger.
I went for a 4.5mm hook which increased the size slightly, so I went ahead to make another square and three triangles. Then it was time to join all my pieces together into a top. After joining the two squares with the first triangle it was obvious it would be a tad bit too small for my breast.
The next best thing was to loosen it and add some extra rows to the square which is exactly what I did. I added two extra rows and was satisfied with what I did, so I joined the squares with the triangles. At this point, I was pleased with myself.
I don’t know if it is exactly what the lady on IG made but I know I was happy with what I had just created. Of course, I can't leave the piece without making the edges look nicer, so I started working on that. I decided to add some mesh.
Once the edges were looking better, I proceeded to make the straps and my top was ready. Overall, I used close to 13 hours to make this top (which was most of my Sunday). Since I was figuring it out as I went, I had to loosen and make some adjustments a few times.
I'll definitely be remaking more of this top, which will most likely take less time to complete since I already know what I need to do. I love the final look and I will love to see how it comes out with other colors.
Thanks for stopping by ❤️
