Dear Sewing Friends of Hive!
Ach, I wanted to have the minidress finished and on by this morning, but #sovereignhomestead life in its current form is pretty messy...
At least we got tons done this week - including the quasi-completion of this silk tunic transformation... And the harvesting of a very large haul of walnuts! This is me with the Nutting Stick (we have 3, one much longer than this, which has ownership of!)
And I got to sew... Vincent and I have had some overwhelm for sure in the past weeks, with big weather changes, and our developing amenities not being quite able to keep up with our impending needs! We are true creatives, meaning we prioritise spontaneous, flowing activities - and this does win over planning or list-making... In such a specific situation as we are currently, though, we seem to be finding little time for either being logical OR freely creative - so we tried, in this perfect, sunny, autumnal spate of good weather, to prioritise our favourite making-of-things.
I sat in the final hours of clear light this week, to handsew the sleeve edges; I found this very skimpy purple silk blousey garment, and thought to add it to the tunic, in two key places:
And because I was able to widen the skirt and waist enough, that the dress doesn't require any button or zip to open & close it. So I further made it 'throw-on-able' by inserting these ruffle type of godets from the purple blouse:
This made the whole dress quite integral, if that makes sense...
