Dear Needlework and Hive Friends!
Finally, here are some snaps of this latest 'sweatercoat' project! It is mostly-complete, as garments that I make for myself often take a lot longer to get the very final details added to!
This piece is created from a few different jumpers (called sweaters in some cultures), a scarf, and the bodice and collars off of two different wool garments. I took beautiful buttons from my extensive button collection, and a zip from a bargain bunch that I bought in Napoli, the day that I met my Beloved ๐๐ค
The coat took a lot of handsewing to complete, and might need some further reinforcing - I work my clothing hard as a homesteader... So far though, this has been the most gorgeous and cosy winter coat to wear this past week or two.
It has two layers of wool, so serves well against most weathers. I've worn it inside a fair bit too, as our house is often the same-ish temperature as outside ๐คญ
I must admit that I cannot seem to align the front edges of the coat with a zip, when handsewing it in like this: I have an idea how to correct the misalignment, by darning with brown wool where the front doesn't line up. I guess it's a question of tension, and checking it whilst sewing, so as to not have this issue ๐
Again, this coat has been a great conversation starter when we've been out and about; all folks who ask about it are excited to hear of someone handcrafting a big piece like this. Which gives me a great confidence boost ๐คฉ
This coat, despite having a few glitches, has helped me get back on top of my needlework practise... I also made a lot of progress on a complicated handbag this week BUT left the strap of it back in Guardia Sanframondi - waaah!! - so will have to wait for our next trip there, to complete it. ๐คจ
Until the next Needlework Monday project, I send you all beautiful wishes for your creative ventures, as Vincent and I contemplate facendo spesa and getting on with (even more) clearing of brambles - and possibly putting our lovely tent back up ๐ฅณ
