Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
First and foremost, I'd like to say a Happy Children's Day to all the Children all over the world. I don't know if the celebration is worldwide or just in Nigeria, nevertheless, today is dedicated to celebrate Children and encourage them to be a good representative of themselves and their families. It is also a public holiday especially for Schools across the country.
Moving forward to the main topic of the day which is showing you how I made a straight gown for a customer with ankara fabrics and chantilly lace used to deisgn the bust area, the base of the gown and the sleeves. Also, the front part of the gown is also embellished with stones to give a glittering effect. This dress is for a customer that want to use it for the forthcoming Eid al-Adha that is coming up next month.
This period is also a peak period for fashion deisgners just like during the Christmas and New Year festive season. I have quite a couple of deadline I have to meet up with before the first week of next month. I'm making progress even though I'm taking it one step at a time to avoid weighing myself down.
Materials Needed
- 4 yards Ankara fabric
- 1 yard chantilly lace
- Stones
- 4 yards black lining
- Zip
Step by Step
- The measurements we are using is bust 38', waist 34', hip 42', gown length 58', sleeve length 20.5', round sleeve 14'.
We will start by folding our fabric into two and take all the bodice measurements, that is, the bust, waist, hip, gown length, sleeve length and round sleeve.
Take note to divide the bodice measurements by 4 especially the bust, waist and hip.
Then trace it out and cut out the front piece.
Afterwards, place the fabric again into two and use the front piece to cut out the back piece making provision for your zipper.
To make provision for the zipper allowance leave about 1½ inches.
Next, replicate the front and back piece that you've cut on your lining.
Then we will proceed to cutting the chantilly lace that will be used at the chest point and at the base of the gown length.
For the shoulder to underbust we will be using a length of 15' and for the base of the gown we will be using 18'.
So, use your pin to hold the chantilly lace on the fabric and use your machine to sew it together. Do it for both the upper and lower lace.
Then you will use your lining to turn the fabric and join the lining to the actual fabric.
You will then proceed to join your zipper to the fabric.
Then join the back shoulder to the front shoulder and set aside.
You will then pick up the sleeves and cut 10' chantilly lace for the down of the sleeve - like we did for the front, open up the sleeves, use your pin to hold it down and sew it together.
The next thing to do is to attach lining to the sleeves and give it a good press. Then attach the sleeves to the armhole.
You will then go ahead to shape the cloth and give it a good fitting.
For the finishing, we will weave the armhole which is the only visible rough edge and this is because I did inseam finishing.
Meanwhile, for the stones on the dress, it was done by my beader and it was perfectly done to give the dress a sparkling look.
The gown is ready to be delivered.
Thanks for your time and see you in my next one.
