Hey lovelies β€οΈ
It's your favorite girl π
Welcome to my blog π€
I will be sharing with you how I made this stunning gown using ankara fabrics. This outfit was made for a customer last year but I'm just having the chance to post it now. This is my first #NeedleWork post for the year and there are many more to come, for sure.
Materials Needed
- 3 yards of Ankara fabric
- 4 yards of lining
- 1 yard of elastic
- 1 yard of hair stay
- ΒΌ yard of breast pad
- Zip
- Tailoring chalk
- Matching threads
Measurements
- Bust - 46"
- Upper bust - 42"
- Under bust - 16.5"
- Bodice length - 26"
- Waist - 42"
- Round shoulder circumference - 48"
- Hip - 47"
- Gown length - 60"
Step by Step
- We will begin by folding the fabric into two and from the shoulder down we will take 26" to mark out the length of the bodice and we will add 1" seam allowance.
- Then mark out the neckline, armhole and shoulder width. Then cut out the front and back piece of the bodice.
- Next, cut out the puffy sleeves that will be attached to the armholes. Do this by cutting out a balloon like sleeve shape and use the desired measurements to cut it out.
- Then for the skirt part of the gown fold your fabric into two and mark the measurements (60" (gown length) minus 26" (bodice length).
- Next, cut the lining that matches the color of the fabrics for the bodice and the skirt part. Use the ankara skirt part piece that you cut earlier to trace it out for ease.
- Then cut the hairstay and breast pad, attach to the front lining piece for structure.
- Next, join the lining pieces together and attach the ankara bodice pieces as well. Then join the ankara bodice with the lining at the neckline.
- Create a small opening where we will pass elastic at the neckline. Then use a nail to pass the elastic through and spread it evenly along the neckline. Afterwards close the opening by stitching it.
- Next, attach the sleeves to the bodice.
- Then join the side seams of the front and back pieces of the skirt part and carefully attach the bodice to it.
- Now attach the zipper. Then give it a good press all round so as to bring out the sharpness of the outfit.
- Next, wear the dress on a mannequin to check the fitting and adjust every other part that needs adjustment.
- Your stunning outfit is ready to be delivered to your customers.
Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
