Hey lovelies β€οΈ
It's your favorite girl π
Welcome to my blog π€
In this post I will be sharing with you how I made this beautiful gown for a customer. I have been the fashion deisgner for this client for over three years and she has referred quite a number of customers to me. Well, that's not the topic for today. This client has a wedding ceremony to attend and she needs a stunnng dress that she can wear to the event. So, she sent in her style and we decided on the way to make it work by tweaking the style a bit. She gave me ample time to deliver the dress, I had about two weeks to deliver so there is no pressure.
Materials Needed
3 yards of damask fabrics
4 yards of lining
1 yard plain crepe
1 yard of hair stay
ΒΌ yard of breast pad
Zip
Tailoring chalk
Matching threads
Measurements
Bust - 46"
Upper Bust - 42"
Under Bust - 16.5"
Top Length - 26"
Waist - 42"
Round shoulder circumference 48
Hip - 47"
Full length - 60"
Step by Step
Start by folding your fabric into two with the right sides facing each other and draft the upper bodice pattern using the bust, upper bust, under bust, waist and top length measurements. Remember to add 2" extra for seam allowance.
Next, cut the front piece and back piece and also add 1.5" at the back piece for zipper allowance.
Also, use the front and back pieces to cut out your lining.
Next draft and cut your shoulders. We are using double sleeve for the dress, one is short (damask) and the other is long (chantilly lace).
The short sleeve (damask) will end above the elbow and for the long sleeve (chantilly lace) use a fitted pattern that will reach the wrist.
Next, you will iron your breast pad and interface to the front piece (damask) and also iron the interface to the back piece.
Now, join the front bodice pieces and back bodice pieces to their respective linings and use the lining to turn the fabric.
Next, attach the sleeves on left armhole and right armhole.
Then for the skirt part we will measure the waist down to the full length (60") and create a mermaid shape by making it fitted from the waist down to the knee before turning out to a flare.
Use waist measurement (42") to shape the upper part of the skirt to make it look narrow as it is moving to the knee area.
Then cut out the front and back pieces of the skirt and join the lining to the pieces and attach them to the bodice. Now, insert your zip.
- Next, do the finishing by hemming the bottom and give it a good press. Then invite the customer for fitting or wear it on your mannequin to check for any necessary adjustments.
- Your dress is ready.
Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
