Dian Cecht, who I wrote a progress report about last week, is all done! I made his sweater and necklace this past week, and he's already starred in his first Faerie Stories video!
I made his sweater with double stranded sock weight blue and embroidery floss weight green yarns, on a little loom knitter that I've had since I was a kid. It's the perfect size for God Doll sweaters! The big end fits their bodies and the little end is perfect for sleeves.
The end result!
So I tried a new method to attach the sleeves this time (I keep experimenting, lol), where I knit the body, cast off, knit the sleeves, cast off, and then knit a separate neck piece (the same width as the body), and cast off. Then I sewed them all together. It gave me that cool angled swirl on the top and I am genuinely a little mystified how that happened, but I like it! LOL. I think I must have been twisting stitches to match up when I sewed things together? Since there was a gap for the sleeves?
For the first two sleeved sweaters that I made on the loom knitter, Nuada's and Lugh's, I just knit all the way up, leaving a gap on two sides for the sleeves, so essentially I just skipped over those loops for a handful of rows but there were still yarns running across that I just pushed up or down when I sewed the sleeves on to the body. Morrigan's sweater is sleeveless but has a cape that I knit on needles and sewed on (Lugh's has a hood that I made part knit and part crochet); Laeg's sweater I knit a torso and sleeves the way I knit Dian Cecht's, but then I crocheted them together as well as the neckline, which actually resulted in a rather wide, kind of squared off neckline. For CuChulainn's sweater, I made it on DPNs, and for Bridget I sewed her a blouse out of fabric (she's the only one so far who doesn't have a sweater as part of her outfit!). All the methods have their pros and cons, but I kind of like this latest method!
So now there are seven members of the Faerie Family here in the Otherworldly Apartment. :)
