Good morning everyone,
I’m so happy and excited to be here this week with my latest bag creation. I called this bag “Ashabi” bag which means “Chosen to be born”. It is a Yoruba name which I like so much and so I decided to use it to name this beautiful bag cus it took special creation to make the bag.
I made this bag for a church member(as most of my customers are from church). She demanded for a new special design that I haven't made before so I come up with this. She also wanted a big size, so I made it a maxi maxi size.
I must confess it wasn’t easy creating this bag because it requires lot of time, skills and expertise but at the end of the day it was worth it. It was a two color(leather) bag and I made it in such a way that the bag will be strong enough to carry whatever content was being put inside since it’s a maxi bag.
Below, I will be taking us through the process of me creating the bag.
MATERIALS USED
- Leathers of choice
- Gum
- Maco 2
- Fibre
- Chi board
- Bottom pin
- Suade lining
- D ring
- Anchor ring
- Zip
- Magnets
PROCESS
- The first thing I did was to make the pattern, replicate it on the Maco 2 and cut out its respective leathers.
- Next, I gummed the leather with the macos.
- Here, I gummed the design leather I want to make on the bag with the main body of the bag, then I sew them together as seen below.
- After that, I sew the D rings to the sides of the bag, sew zip to the inner lining compartment and sew the sides together as seen below.
- Then I sew the short handles to the upper front and back of the bag as seen below.
- Finally I fixed the bottom pins to the bottom of the bag, gum the fibre to the inner part of the bag to make it firm and stand. Then I sew the compartment to the sides of the bags and I sew the sides to the main body of the bag after gumming the linings together with mu cylinder bed machine.
