Hello dear creatives, wishing everyone a lovely and relaxing weekend ahead.
Have you ever fallen in love with something at first sight and immediately got inspired? That is my case with this orange silk fabric,
I'm a lover of silk fabric because of how soothing it feels on the skin and how it effortlessly gives that luxury shine, but I don't get to make dresses frequently out of this type of fabric because I often lack inspiration of what to make of them. So when I had a friend visit with the same silk fabric lost for ideas on what to make with the fabric she had gotten for her intended date, surprisingly, looking at the fabric I was inspired without stressing my head too much as it had that appeal to it that makes it irresistible to create something beautiful out if it.
I asked If she would love to make what I had in mind, an adjustable halter neck flare dress, which I think is a perfect choice for her slim figure, as it would enhance her feminine silhouette, and also give her that graceful and modest look. she just trusted me to go ahead, and I just couldn't wait to get it all out of my head, as it is also a very easy dress to make, anyone with little sewing knowledge can easily go through the steps I would be sharing and replicate same design for either for a date as well, or any occasion you dim it fit.
Materials used
- Silk fabric
- matchincoloreded thread
- Zipper
Cutting And Sewing Process
- The first thing I did was to draft the basic off-shoulder bodice, subtracting 4" to the off shoulder, I also left an extra 2" above the subtracted length which would be sewed as the rope channel, the front has one piece,
- While the back has two piece drafted pattern
- Next using the same silk fabric, I cut out a bias strip, which I used in piping the armhole area of the front and back patterns,
and also folded the extra 2" allowance I left above you to form a channel.
- Continuing, I drafted and cut out the flat/circle skirt with the length slightly above the kneel,
which I joined to the upper front and back already joined waistline
- I also extended the length of the dress by cutting out a long strip of silk and gathering it before attaching it to the flared hem.
- To make the rope, this time I used black silk, contrasting the orange silk, I passed it around the channel I created from the side front, around to the side back.
And here is the final look of this elegant dress, it has a zipper attached to the back for easy wearing.
I'm glad I made the best use of the 3 yards of silk fabric, and my friend love her dress as well, I think I'll replicate the same style for myself, and I hope to get inspired more often as much as I love the silk fabric.
