What is that favorite thing you love to crochet, sew, or upcycled?
I never knew I had a favorite sewing project until recently when a stranger asked me to make her different outfits after she saw a shirt I wore which I made myself.
At first, she asked for the name of the store I got my shirt from and when I told her I made them myself, she was stunned, and couldn't believe her eyes, she thought it was made by one of the big brands we have in my country, no, I told her, "Glory, right here(pointing to myself) made this" immediately she asked if I could make her one too, even more outfits, of course, I said yes, this is one of those moments you feel proud of yourself as a fashion designer, to be admired for what you do, especially when it comes from a stranger who doesn't know you sew.
I got to find out she is a shirt lover just like me, we exchanged contacts right there and as she ordered for a shirt jumpsuit, shirt dress and also a two-piece shirt and shorts, and a trouser, everything shirt hahaš. I was more than happy to have a new client, and more, making shirts in whatever form is one of my favorite sewing projects, from the collar, to the placket, the sleeves part. I think making shirts takes less time also less stress and when there is an already made pattern replicating on different fabrics Is just easy to do and this makes it easier the more.
What makes a shirt more eye-catching and stylish is the chosen fabric, its design and texture play a huge role in the outcome, for this project, I chose to work with a colorful flowery light crepe fabric, I fell in love with this fabric the moment I saw it.
Here are the shirt patterns, I designed the button placket with a plain pink crepe fabric, I like switching from the regular type of shirt placket, it makes my work unique, the reason why the beautiful stranger turned-client thought I bought my shirt at a big branded store.
Using a basic short pattern, I drafted and cut out the shorts, and I also designed the turn-up hem/base of the shorts with the pink plain crepe fabric.
Also, there is this short band I've been admiring for a while, I see it on ready-made shorts, and I've always wanted to make one, for the first time, I tried replicating the band and I think I got it just perfect, it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would all I had to do was sew on top of the band, I already fixed an elastic in It, and viola I got it.
I'm so happy about this project and more shirt-making projects I have laid down for the week ahead. I hope you all have an exciting week too working on your projects.
