Hello, everyone! How's your new year going, so far?
Before 2021 ended, I posted a recap video on my crochet account, showing some of the projects I've made since July 2021. And since crochet has been taking so much of my time ever since I picked my hook up again, I thought that it would be nice to make a blog post about it as well.
I don't have a niche when it comes to crocheting because I love exploring the craft and learning how to make new projects, so you're going to see random items here, from small projects like scrunchies to big projects like clothing. hehe 😁
Okay. Here we go...
Scrunchies and Twisted Headbands were my first few projects. I've already made quite a number of these, but most of them were either given away or commissioned.
This is a collection of the scrunchies left with me. I use them every single day! See those pieces that are starting to curl? Well, that's our evidence right there. Haha If you look closely, you'll even see some stain marks on the white scrunchie because this picture was prior to its laundry day. Hahaha Ooops. TMI.
I am not a headband-person to begin because wearing it makes me feel cute, which I am not very comfortable with when outside. Haha But after making some for myself, I started appreciating and wearing them! I even had a phase when I would wear one all-day, everyday, just so I can try on the different colors. Hahaha.
Aside from the twisted headband, I also made a bunch of Ears Headbands! This product is definitely the best-selling in my teenie tiny crochet business. I don't have one for myself though, because... I don't know. I just keep on forgetting about making one for myself. Hahahah
Another project that I also tried was a sling bag. I originally wanted to make a backpack, but such a big project requires a lot of time, energy and yarn. Haha. And since I was still a beginner, I didn't want to push myself to making big projects right away. Hehe.
I envisioned a minimalist-slash-vintage-looking piece, hence I opted to a natural fiber and vintage accessories. Even though there are imperfections here and there, I am really happy with this piece, and get all excited when I use it outside. Hihi Oh, I named this, Mary Sling Bag, BTW.
When Mama saw my Mary Sling Bag, she asked me to make her a smaller and simpler pouch, where she can keep her phone. She also specified to make it black, "para hindi dumihin." Haha Anyone here heard that from their parents before as well? 🤣
Anyway, I made bucket hats and beanies, too!
The green bucket hat was another request from Mama. That's her color choice, too. The white one, on the other hand, was a project inspired by Mama's crocheted bucket hat from years ago. She told me that Papa bought it for her when they went to Baguio. Mama said that that was when they were still dating, but in Papa's version of the story, they were already married then. Dunno who's memory is accurate. Hahahah
The idea of making a beanie occured to me while thinking of gift ideas for a guy friend. Gooosh, I find it hard to think about gifts for guys in general, more so a crocheted item! Haha Plus, someone also inquired for a beanie before. Hehe This was my second beanie (FOR MAMA AGAIN! I haven't seen her wear this, pero she did daw! Hay. Haha) The first one was in a darker shade of brown.
Moving forward, I am presenting to you, the cute stuff I made!!!
Before 2021 ended, I received a very special custom order: an All Too Well-inspired scarf! I was super kilig when I read my client's message, and even more so when she told me that she loved it! She actually gave it as a gift to a friend. Isn' that so sweet? ❤️
Among all the projects I've made, the biggest shocker for me were the crocheted tops and shorts. When I started kasi, I told myself I won't make clothing because the crochet tops I've been seeing then were too bright, colorful and daring (things I am not lol). I thought that that's how crochet garments are supposed to be. But as I explored more, I learned that I was wrong. And six months later, here I am with 1 shorts and 4 freehand tops. Hahahaha
Matilda Top is the newest addition to the fam, which I am super duper proud of! I am even thinking of making a paid pattern for it, but ummm. I dunno. I'm shy and worried. hihi.
Anyway... Woah. I didn't know I've made that many projects in a span of 6 months! There are even some that were not included here, such as pet collar or new born baby stuff. Haha
I am so happy and grateful with my growth in this craft, and looking forward for more amazing projects this year. Wohoo!
