Varias cosas pasaron desde la última publicación. Es mas, Kevin debía estar listo antes del 14 de febrero. Por eso el título mas vale tarde que nunca. Lo cierto, es que con Kevin listo vuelvo aquí a comentarles sobre mi experiencia tejiendo este mapache tan lindo. Para que sea más lindo aún, le tejeré un pañuelo celeste.
Me estoy animando a tejer otro Kevin, para ver el tamaño real. Por ahora, veámos cómo fue estos últimos pasos para obtener el muñeco listo para irse con su dueño.
Several things have happened since the last post. What's more, Kevin had to be ready before february 14. That's why the title is better late than never. The fact is, now that Kevin is ready, I'm back here to tell you about my experience crocheting this cute little raccoon. To make it even cuter, I'm going to crochet him a light blue scarf.
I'm considering crocheting another Kevin to see the actual size. For now, let's see how these last steps went to get the stuffed animal ready to go home with its owner.

Al terminar de tejer las orejas, sentía que lo demás sería mas sencillo. Las cosí para ver cómo quedaban. Ahora sí ya estaba completa la cabeza, siendo las orejas una parte importante de la anatomía del mapache. En este diseño, creo que la cabeza es la parte más entretenida, debido a que tiene varias partes para tejer y coser.
Once I had finished crocheting the ears, I felt that the rest would be easier. I sewed them on to see how they looked. Now the head was complete, with the ears being an important part of the raccoon's anatomy. In this design, I think the head is the most entertaining part, because it has different pieces to weave and sew.
Al tratarse de animales, quienes por lo general son tejidos en posición sentados. El ensamblado del cuerpo sí lo hice rápido. En esta parte, noté la diferencia de las texturas y grosor de hilo entre ambos colores (gris y negro).
Since they are animals, they are usually woven in a sitting position. I did assemble the body quickly. In this part, I noticed the difference in texture and yarns thickness between the two colors (gray and black).
Y esta es la parte donde tengo mayor cuidado al momento del ensamblado. Recuerdo que antes colocaba la cabeza ligeramente chueco, como mirando hacia un costado. Por eso, algunos de mis patrones, llevan el cuerpo unido con la cabeza. Ahora que volveré a diseñar animalitos, creo que haré eso. Como para quienes están aprendiendo a tejer muñecos.
And this is the part where I am most meticulous when assembling. I remember that he used to tilt his head slightly, as if looking to one side. That's why some of my patterns have the body attached to the head. Now that I'm going to start designing animals again, I think I'll do that. Like for those who are learning to weave dolls.
Kevin (el mapache) me recuerda a las fotos de mis documentos, así como mirando al vacío, jaja... o como que le agarraron de imprevisto. Ahora, ya no salgo así en las fotos. Me quedó pequeño, tiene un tamaño de 14 cm. Esto puede ser al menor grosor del hilo principal (color gris). Veré si después vuelvo a tejerlo con otro color de hilo.
Kevin (the raccoon) reminds me of the photographs in my documents, as if staring into space, jaja... or like they caught him off guard. Now, I don't look like that in photographs anymore. It was too small for me; it has a size of 5.5 in. This may be due to the thinner yarn used for the main yarn (gray). I'll see if I can weave it again with a different color of yarn.
Fue todo una aventura tejer a Kevin. No sé nada de los mapaches, solo sé que en México y algunos países se meten a las casas a buscar comida o sino andan allí por los parques y las calles. Aquí, he visto ardillas entre los árboles y por los cables de alumbrado público, jaja.
El tiempo de tejido de Kevin fue de 7.5 horas. Voy viendo que los muñecos medianos a grandes, por lo general me toman ese tiempo. Creo que con este dato, ya puedo cotizar al ojímetro (sin pensar tanto) cuando me hacen consultas sobre los muñecos tejidos.
Crocheting Kevin, was quite an adventure. I don't know anything about raccoons, except that in Mexico and some other countries, they get into houses looking for food, or else they hang around in parks and streets. Here, I've seen squirrels in the trees and on the streetlights, jaja.
Kevin's crocheting time was 7.5 hours. I'm finding that medium to large toys usually take me that long. I think that with this information, I can now give a rough estimate (without thinking too much) when people ask me about crocheted toys.
