Saludos querida comunidad, seguramente muchos de ustedes conocerán al personaje de Carl Fredicksen de la película Up conocida en en Latinoamérica como Una aventura de altura, esta historia animada es enternecedora y plantea muchos temas importantes de la vida, como el amor y las promesas incumplidas pero también el pasar rápido del tiempo y lo corta que es la vida cuando se tienen tantos sueños, también mueve un terma sensible que es la soledad tanto en vejez como en la niñez, pues este señor encuentra un verdadero amigo en un niño de buen corazón que está dispuesto ayudarlo y que como el también pasa mucho tiempo solo, por su parte el señor vive con un duelo silencioso por la perdía de su esposa Ellie quien lo acompañó casi toda la vida y que gracias a ese niño llamado Russel logra sobrellevar. Por tal motivo cuando recibí el encargo de hacer este personaje junto con su esposa casi salto de la emoción, así que hoy les comparto un poco de mi experiencia con la figura de Carl pues a Ellie aun no comienzo a hacerla 😊

Greetings, dear community! Many of you are surely familiar with the character of Carl Fredricksen from the movie Up, known in Latin America as Una aventura de altura (A High-Flying Adventure). This animated story is heartwarming and raises many important themes about life, such as love and broken promises, but also the rapid passage of time and how short life is when you have so many dreams. It also touches on the sensitive topic of loneliness, both in old age and in childhood, as this man finds a true friend in a kind-hearted boy who is willing to help him and who, like him, also spends a lot of time alone. For his part, Carl lives with a silent grief for the loss of his wife, Ellie, who was by his side for almost his entire life, and it is thanks to this boy, Russell, that he manages to cope. Therefore, when I received the commission to create this character along with his wife, I almost jumped for joy! So today I'm sharing a bit of my experience with the Carl figure, as I haven't started Ellie yet. 😊

Proceso / Process

Este amigurumi me lo pidieron grande , al menos de 20 cm, el resulto final terminó siendo de 23cm, pero me encantó trabajar este formato, yo ya he trabajado otras figuras humanas en amigurumis mas pequeños, lo he hecho con una hebra de hilo acrílico y ganchillo de 1.25, por tal motivo lo que hice para hacer este fue trabajar con hebra doble y ganchillo de 2.5mm, hice algunas pequeñas modificaciones pero en general el proceso resultó tal como lo esperaba en cuando al cuerpo, comencé los zapatos con negro, luego con el pantalón de un tono de café claro, hice el cinturón de color café oscuro, el torso de la camisa en blanco, hice aparte los brazos y los uní al torso para trabajar en conjunto y poder introducir alambre en los brazos, luego hice las disminuciones para los hombros y hasta llegar al cuello.

This amigurumi was requested to be large, at least 20 cm, but the final result was 23 cm. I loved working with this size. I've already worked on other human figures in smaller amigurumi, using a strand of acrylic yarn and a 1.25 mm crochet hook. Therefore, for this one, I used a double strand and a 2.5 mm hook. I made a few small modifications, but overall the process turned out as I expected. For the body, I started with black shoes, then the pants in a light brown shade. I made the belt in dark brown, the torso of the shirt in white, and the arms separately. I then attached them to the torso to work together and insert wire into the arms. Finally, I made the decreases for the shoulders and worked my way up to the neck.

Aunque el personaje original proporciones del cuerpo un poco peculiares y no quería ser exagerada hice la figura un poco mas alargada, pero la cabeza quería que conservara un poco de lo cuadrado del personaje original, pero no tanto como parecer un funko, así que los aumentos para la parte de debajo de la cabeza los hice en cuadrado, pero la parte superior si hice las disminuciones en circulo. Me di cuenta por imágenes referenciales que muchas personas hacen el cabello blanco, pero yo no quería hacerlo completamente blanco así que decidí hacerlo con una hebra gris y una hebra de blanco a la vez, el resultado me encantó pues realmente parece el cabello canoso de una persona mayor.

Although the original character had somewhat unusual body proportions, and I didn't want to exaggerate, I made the figure a little longer. I wanted the head to retain some of the original character's square shape, but not so much that it looked like a Funko Pop. So, I made the increases for the lower part of the head square, while the decreases for the upper part were circular. I noticed from reference images that many people make the hair white, but I didn't want to make it completely white, so I decided to do it with a gray strand and a white strand at the same time. I loved the result because it really looks like the gray hair of an older person.

Les cuento que cuando ya iba en este tramo del trabajo me sucedió algo muy lamentable, se me partió le ganchillo cuando estaba haciendo la ultima manga de la chaqueta, pude terminar solo esa parte tomando lo que había quedado del ganchillo porque no he podido comprar otro aun, pero los detalles como las cejas, los ojos, orejas, tirantes, corbatín e incluso la base tuve que usar un ganchillo de un tamaño mas pequeño, espero pode encontrar un ganchillo del tamaño que necesito para comenzar a hacer a Ellie la esposa muy pronto.

I have to tell you that when I was already at this stage of the work, something very unfortunate happened: my crochet hook broke while I was making the last sleeve of the jacket. I was only able to finish that part using what was left of the hook because I haven't been able to buy another one yet, but for the details like the eyebrows, eyes, ears, suspenders, bow tie, and even the base, I had to use a smaller crochet hook. I hope to find a crochet hook the size I need to start making Ellie, the wife, very soon.
