I have been working on a Father’s Day apron today along with firing pottery in my kiln. I am combining my embroidery skills along with my regular sewing skills. I am up cycling black denim to make the apron. It is a project in progress.
I made a pattern from one of my pottery aprons using craft paper from a Home Depot that I had in my garage already.
I have several different types of aprons that I use for pottery as well as for cooking in the kitchen. A good functional apron needs pockets in my opinion. I usually put my cell phone in one pocket while I am working.
I am not finished yet, but it is getting late and I am tired. I still have to cook dinner but I am at a good stopping point. I have embroidered on the pockets that I am making, and serged around all of the raw edges.
I still need to either add seam binding along the edges of the apron or turn the serged edges under a couple of times and hem them. I’ll decide tomorrow depending on the supplies that I already have available. I do know that I am going to add a grommet or two at the top of the apron to make the neckline adjustable.
I am also considering embellishing the apron with leather since I have a lot of leather available. The only bad thing about leather would be that the apron would not be easily washed.
Enjoy your evening.
