Roughly 9500 stitches later and here it is! This is the second sweater I ever completed using crochet and I am very happy with how it turned out :) It's for my mother and she is close enough to the same size as me that I felt confident making her a sweater that would fit.
For this garment I used a new to me stitch called linen/moss/granite or woven stitch. It is very easy to do, you just make ann odd numbered chain and sc into the second chain of the hook, then make a chain, skip a stitch then single crochet and repeat, on the next row you put your single crochets under the chains of the previous row creating this alternating pattern.
I jumped back and forth between keeping the design simple and clean looking (like you could buy it off the rack) or adding some extra embellishments. I decided on keeping it simple but added the small zig zaggy pattern across the chest as a compromise.
These are my notes for the pattern incase I want to make it again. I used a mega huge skein of the charcoal yarn that was 866 yards and had to use a little extra of the next one + the cream accents. I would estimate around 1000 yards or a bit less?
