ENG/ ESP Handmade sheep costume. / Disfraz de oveja hecho a mano.

Blessed Friday. I am happy to greet you and also to be able to share the experience of making this costume for my little Rafaella. She will be in a play called the Disobedient Sheep, where she plays the role of the aforementioned Sheep. It is a very tender play with a beautiful message about following God before the perishable things that life offers us.

Bendecido viernes. Me gozo en saludarlos y además poder compartir la experiencia de elaborar este disfraz para mí pequeña Rafaella. Estará en una obra de teatro titulada la Ovejita Desobediente, donde ella interpreta el papel de la mencionada Oveja. Es una obra muy tierna con un bello mensaje acerca de seguir a Dios antes que las cosas perecederas que nos ofrece la vida.

I was very hesitant about whether to make the costume myself or to seek help from a seamstress. I finally made up my mind and went to a place where they sell fabric scraps. I got a little more than a yard of fabric called sheepsheep and it seemed perfect for what I had in mind.

Tenía muchas dudas sobre si me animaba a hacer yo misma el disfraz o si buscaba ayuda con una costura. Finalmente me decidí y fui a un lugar donde venden retazos de tela. Conseguí un poco más de un metro de tela llamada ovejero y me pareció perfecta para lo que tenía en mente.

I cut the design directly without a pattern. I used as a guide a flannel from Rafa that I thought was a good size. The idea was to make a sort of one-piece and a hood on the side. It would have been great to do it with the hood attached to the overall, but I didn't dare to go that far. I cut the piece extending down and then made an opening by cutting the front and back to make the legs.

Corte el diseño directamente sin patrón. Usé como guía una franela de Rafa que me pareció de buen tamaño. La idea era hacer una especie de enterizo y aparte una capucha. Habría sido genial hacerlo con la capucha unida al enterizo, pero no me atreví a tanto. Corté la pieza extiendo hacia abajo y después hice una abertura cortando el delantero y trasero para hacer las piernas.

I pinned and hand stitched everything. The back where the back joins in one piece, sides, shoulders and legs. The wonderful thing about this fabric is that there is no need to stitch or topstitch and even less need to hem, except on the legs where I hemmed to insert a garter belt and make a slight pucker.

Sujeté todo con alfileres y cosí a mano todo. La parte de atrás donde se une la espalda en una sola pieza, laterales, hombros y piernas. Lo maravilloso de esta tela es que no hace falta rematar ni pespuntar y menos hacer dobladillos, excepto en las piernas que hice dobladillos para introducir una ligas y hacer un ligero fruncido.

I cut out the shape of the hat and sewed backwards to join the parts. Then I sewed a rectangle on the front, which I filled in to give more structure. I cut out the ears and the black inner part and sewed them on. I realized that I could sew everything at the same time, that is, the circles and the stuffed border, with one stitch it was all in place, but I noticed it late. I still managed to get it in place without the seams showing.

Corté la forma del gorro y cosí al revés para unir las partes. Luego cosí un rectángulo en la parte frontal, el cual rellené para dar más estructura. Corté las orejas y la parte interna de color negro y las cosi. Me di cuenta que pude coser todo al mismo tiempo, es decir, las ojeras y el borde relleno, con una sola costura quedaba todo en su sitio, pero lo noté tarde. Aún así logré colocarlo sin que se vieran las costuras.

Finally I knitted a couple of straps to make a bow to hold the hat. Apart from being functional it is also decorative and the pink color adds a touch of tenderness to this little rebel sheep.

Finalmente tejí un par de correas para hacerle un moño para sujetar el gorro. Aparte de funcional también es decorativo y el color rosa le añade un toque de ternura a esta pequeña oveja rebelde.

The play is going to be performed on Sunday for the church anniversary. I will be sharing some pictures with you on Monday. For now I am getting to work, because the Sunday school teacher unexpectedly asked me to help her with another costume and hair accessories for the children. I have hard work, but I enjoy it, as it is part of being a servant. Until next time and many blessings.

La obra se va a realizar el domingo para el aniversario de la Iglesia. Estaré compartiendo con ustedes algunas fotitos para el día lunes. Por ahora me pongo a trabajar, pues de imprevisto la profesora de la escuela dominical me pidió que la ayudara con otro disfraz y los accesorios para el cabello de los niños. Tengo arduo trabajo, pero yo lo disfruto, pues es parte de ser un servidor. Hasta la próxima y muchas bendiciones.
