How many pairs of trousers are too many?
Or should I call it a constant to and from, between capsule wardrobe and walk through dresser?
Meanwhile the capsule wardrobe stands for limited pieces of clothing, where each of them has its justified and approved purpose.
The walkthrough dresser tries to charm with abundant choices of garments in every possible edition.
But each of the two scenarios wouldn’t bring much satisfaction, if it leaves you with eighter too many choices of garments to wear. Or too much overthinking, in trying to find the minimal selection, that would perfectly fit every occasion.
Somewhere in between those thoughts. I realized that I don’t have many trousers, that I truly like, use and enjoy wearing.
At the same time, I felt very enthusiastic about learning new skills, regarding sewing. Confront the techniques I am not confident in.
Trousers are such a subject. Not sure why this garment is so hard to get right. When all it truly consists of, are to tubes hold together by a waistband…
Nevertheless, there is always a part that is too loose, to tight. You can’t sit down right or run. While one pair favours your shapes in one way, the next pair makes you look like your worst nightmare. All while your body stayed in its original shape all along.
That realization paired with my enthusiasm to confront this difficult part of sewing, resulted in multiple trouser projects.
After I had upcycled some trousers, designed a pattern and then made a second version from it, I was about to sew another pair.
At that stage I couldn’t really stop anymore. Always a new way to try, another fabric to experiment with.
Golden.
Visioning some loungewear pants, elegant and comfortable to wear.
The type that would make you look dressed up when going out. Meanwhile you could have some rather sophisticated chilling experience on your Couche in the very same piece of garment.
This time I was using some stretchy fabric.
My trousers where almost completed…
All the while I was checking out the trousers stands on my second-hand shop tours, for inspiration. What detail could I add? What other fit haven’t I thought of yet?
Usually, I NEVER buy trousers.
Just the fact to have to go to the dressing cabinet and take of my shoes to try them on, putts me off. Not even mentioning that I rarely find something I like.
But this time I found EXACTLY what I was looking for, since a good while.
In lavender.
And black.
How does that happen? In a second-hand shop? Finding the garment, that you want, the exact colour, the right size and fabric?
Meanwhile you are about to sew that piece...
I am not trying to explain it.
How many trousers are too many?
Meanwhile the number varies from person to person, I know that I do have too many at that stage.
Back at my sewing machine, I still completed the project.
Because even if there are too many trousers now, how could I resign from those long, soft golden pants?
It will have to be, lavender for the morning...
...black throughout the day
...and golden for the sunset.
Thank you for passing by, have a wonderful week!
