Hace aproximadamente dos meses una amiga me pidió realizar una cama para su perrita puesto que la que ya tenía hacia mucho que la misma peludita la había destrozado 🤣🤣, por diversos motivos académicos que me mantuvieron alejada de la costura, la realización de esta cama se pospuso durante todo este tiempo, sin embargo esta semana al fin me desocupe de las clases (si gente, salí de vacaciones) y pude concentrarme en trabajar en este proyecto que hoy les traigo.
About two months ago a friend asked me to make a bed for her dog since the one she already had had been destroyed by the same furry dog 🤣🤣, for various academic reasons that kept me away from sewing, the realization of this bed was postponed during all this time, however this week I finally got rid of classes (yes people, I went on holiday) and I could concentrate on working on this project that I bring you today.
🐶 MATERIALES || MATERIALS 🐶
Para un modelo XXXL los materiales son:
- 2m de tela de peluche o polar.
- 1 ½ m de loneta sky.
- Relleno (puede ser sintético, guata, goma espuma o retazos de tela).
- 1 cierre invisible de 50cm.
- Hilo del color de la tela.
- Tijera y cinta métrica.
- Máquina de coser.
For an XXXL model the materials are:
- 2m of plush or fleece fabric.
- 1 ½ m of sky canvas.
- Padding (can be synthetic, wadding, foam rubber or fabric scraps).
- 1 50cm invisible zip.
- Thread in the colour of the fabric.
- Scissors and tape measure.
- Sewing machine.
🐶 COMENCEMOS || LET'S START 🐶
Lo primero que haremos será cortar todas las piezas necesarias, la cama que realicé es de talla XXXL (aunque la perrita no es tan grande, sus papás así la quisieron), es por ello que cortaremos un rectángulo de 105cm x 60cm en la loneta sky, además se cortaran 4 piezas más en esta tela, 2 de 60cm x 20cm y 2 de 105cm x 20 cm. Estas 4 últimas piezas también se cortaran en la tela de peluche con exactamente las mismas medidas, aunado a esto se cortaran 2 rectángulo de 110cm x 65cm, los cuales formaran el almohadón central de la cama y que por tal motivo son 5cm más grande que la base.
A uno de los laterales de 105cm de cada tela, le vamos a medir 15cm hacia adentro de cada lado y 10cm desde la parte superior hacia abajo, este rectángulo que se forma lo cortaremos curveando las esquinas que se forman, estas piezas serán la parte frontal de la cama.
The first thing we will do is to cut all the necessary pieces, the bed I made is XXXL size (although the dog is not that big, her parents wanted it that way), that's why we will cut a 105cm x 60cm rectangle in the sky canvas, we will also cut 4 more pieces in this fabric, 2 of 60cm x 20cm and 2 of 105cm x 20cm. These last 4 pieces will also be cut in the plush fabric with exactly the same measurements, in addition to this we will cut 2 rectangles of 110cm x 65cm, which will form the central cushion of the bed and for this reason they are 5cm bigger than the base.
To one of the 105cm sides of each fabric, we will measure 15cm inwards on each side and 10cm from the top to the bottom, this rectangle will be cut by curving the corners that are formed, these pieces will be the front of the bed.
Se comienza la costura con el almohadón, marcamos por uno de los laterales el punto de inicio y final del cierre, y cosiendo a 2cm de margen primero lo haremos con puntada n° 3 hasta la marca de inicio del cierre, rematamos y continuamos con puntada n° 5 y al llegar a la marca que indica el final del cierre, volvemos a rematar y terminamos de coser con puntada n° 3. Abrimos la costura y ubicamos el cierre, lo coseremos solamente de las pestañas de la tela puesto que del lado del derecho no se deben ver costuras. Una vez el cierre está listo, descosemos la zona que había quedado con punta n° 5.
We start the sewing with the cushion, we mark on one of the sides the start and end point of the zip, and sewing with a 2cm seam allowance, first we sew with stitch n° 3 up to the start mark of the zip, we finish off and continue with stitch n° 5 and when we reach the mark indicating the end of the zip, we finish off again and finish sewing with stitch n° 3. We open the seam and place the zip, we will sew it only on the tabs of the fabric, as no seams should be visible on the right side. Once the zip is ready, unpick the area that was left with stitch no. 5.
Cosemos los otros tres lados del almohadón, y luego coseremos las esquinas formando triángulos para darle una forma de colchón a este almohadón. Luego de esto nos pasaremos a la cama como tal, uniremos todos los laterales tanto de la tela de peluche como de la loneta.
We sew the other three sides of the cushion together, and then sew the corners into triangles to give the cushion a mattress shape. After this we will move on to the bed as such, we will join all the sides of both the plush fabric and the canvas.
Enfrentamos los derechos de tela (peluche y loneta) y vamos a coser por toda la parte superior dejando solamente un espacio de unos 15cm sin coser que será por donde rellenemos al final, una vez listo hacemos piquetes en las curvas y damos la vuelta. Si se quiere se puede realizar una costura en la parte inferior para sujetar ambas telas y que el siguiente paso sea más fácil, en mi caso decidí continuar de esta forma simplemente sujetando con alfileres, pero teniendo mucha precaución.
We face the right sides of the fabric (teddy and canvas) and we sew all over the top leaving only a space of about 15cm without sewing which will be where we fill in at the end, once ready we make picks in the curves and turn around. If you want you can make a seam at the bottom to hold both fabrics and make the next step easier, in my case I decided to continue in this way simply by pinning, but being very careful.
Tomamos la base de la cama y le redondeamos un poco las esquina para que se mas fácil coser los laterales. Enfrentando el derecho de las lonetas, sujetamos y cosemos por todo el alrededor de la base. Hacemos piquetes en las curvas y damos la vuelta para luego realizar una puntada de asentamiento por todo el alrededor, con esta puntada aseguramos que los laterales se mantengan en pie.
We take the base of the bed and round the corners a little to make it easier to sew the sides. Facing the right sides of the slice, we hold and sew all around the base. We make peaks in the curves and then turn and stitch all the way around, with this stitch we make sure that the sides will stay up.
Finalmente comenzamos a rellenar, y algo importante a tener en cuenta es que la abertura por donde se rellena la cama se recomienda dejarla por la parte de atrás, para que así nuestra mano (o en mi caso el brazo completo) pueda entrar con facilidad. Una vez se termine de rellenar, se cierra el espacio abierto con una costura invisible.
Finally we start stuffing, and something important to keep in mind is that the opening where the bed is stuffed is recommended to leave it at the back, so that our hand (or in my case the whole arm) can enter easily. Once the filling is finished, the open space is closed with an invisible seam.
