I wanted to tell you that yesterday I was focused on sewing a ruffled skirt. I made it with scraps of white fabric. Making this skirt was quite a laborious experience; I worked from noon until midnight to see the result. During that time, I barely got up to do anything quick, just cutting and sewing. My daughter made lunch.
My daughter loves skirts. Since the fabric was cut into strips, we had to find a way to join the pieces and give it the best finish. Believe me, designing garments with scraps is not an easy task, but I have always believed that with patience and perseverance, anything is possible. In my case, I love to sew and I always try to use every scrap of fabric in good condition to create pieces that make the most of this versatile material.
Without further ado, I invite you to join me in my experience cutting, assembling, and sewing each piece of this beautiful skirt for the little princesses of the house.

Quería contarles que ayer estuve concentrada en coser una falda con volantes, la hice con retazos de tela blanca. Hacer esta falda fue una experiencia bastante laboriosa; estuve trabajando desde el mediodía hasta la medianoche para ver el resultado. Durante ese tiempo, apenas me levanté para hacer algo rápido, solo cortar y coser. Mi hija preparó el almuerzo.
A mi hija le encantan las faldas. Como la tela estaba cortada en tiras, tuvimos que encontrar la manera de unir las piezas y darle el mejor acabado. Créanme, diseñar prendas con retazos no es tarea fácil, pero siempre he creído que con paciencia y perseverancia, todo es posible. En mi caso, me encanta coser y siempre intento aprovechar cada retazo de tela en buen estado para crear piezas que aprovechen al máximo este material tan versátil.

Among several strips of white fabric, thread, scissors, and a sewing machine, among other key tools, was my sewing project yesterday.
The first step was to match the fabric strips to the measurements I needed. I cut three strips for the ruffles, three for the center panels, one hip-width waistband, and one waistband. Then I sewed each piece to fit my daughter's measurements.
Entre varias tiras de tela blanca, hilo, tijeras y una máquina de coser, entre otras herramientas clave, estaba mi proyecto de costura de ayer.
El primer paso fue ajustar las tiras de tela a las medidas que necesitaba. Corté tres tiras para los volantes, y 3 para las bandas del medio, 1 pretina de ancho de cadera, y una pretina de ancho de cintura, luego cosí para darle tamaño a cada pieza de acuerdo a la talla, de las medidas de mi hija.

When I finished sewing the length of the bands for the ruffles, and the hip circumference, I sewed a straight seam over the bands for the ruffles, and that's how I achieved the gathering.
Cuando terminé de coser el largo de las bandas para los volantes, y la circunferencia de la cadera, cosí una costura recta sobre las bandas para los volantes, y así logré el fruncido.

Next, I attached a piece of the center band for the skirt, then placed the gathered ribbon on top. I pinned it in place to prevent it from rolling up, and then sewed it. I had previously hemmed the edge of each ruffle ribbon. I joined each piece to form the main skirt piece. I cut six strips for the skirt length, between the ruffle and the center band of each ruffle, and sewed them on. Then, I realized the skirt was going to be too short, so I had to cut more pieces to achieve the length my daughter wanted.
I continued with assembling the waistbands.
A continuación, fijé un trozo de la banda central de la falda y coloqué la cinta fruncida encima. La sujeté con alfileres para evitar que se enrollara y la cosí. I sewed the waistbands separately. First, I sewed the wider waistband that goes around the hips. Then, I attached the hip waistband and sewed it in place. I liked the idea of adding elastic to the waistband, and luckily, among my boxes of scraps and recycled items like elastic and zippers, I found the perfect elastic for the width of the waistband I had sewn. So, using a pin, I inserted the elastic and sewed a centered seam, stretching the elastic so it was even. Then, I joined both sides of the skirt and the seam, leaving the seam on the back side.
Cosí las pretinas por separado. Primero, cosí la pretina más ancha que rodea las caderas. Luego, uní la pretina de la cadera y la cosí. Me gustó la idea de añadirle elástico a la pretina, y por suerte, entre mis cajas de retazos y artículos reciclados como elásticos y cremalleras, encontré el elástico perfecto para el ancho de la pretina que había cosido.
