Happy Monday to all friends of Hive & Needle Work Monday. I hope you enjoyed this weekend and that you were able to catch up on the projects you like the most. In Argentina we had a long weekend but with quite cold and rainy days, so I did what I could. Even though most of the time was spent lying down and getting a lot out of my Netflix subscription, there was still time for sewing. This weekend was the turn of a lace that I have saved for a while, hoping to become a beautiful outfit and it did. Hope you like it ❤️.
Feliz lunes para todos, amigos de Hive & Needle Work Monday. Espero que hayan disfrutado este fin de semana y que hayan podido ponerse al día con los proyectos que más les gusten. En Argentina tuvimos un fin de semana largo pero con unos días bastante fríos y lluviosos, así que hice lo que pude. A pesar de que la mayor parte del tiempo lo pasé acostada y sacándole mucho provecho a mi suscripción de Netflix, igual hubo momentos para la costura. Esta vez fue el turno de una puntilla que tengo guardada hace rato, esperando convertirse en un conjunto hermoso y así fue. Espero que les guste ❤️.
What I like the most about lingerie is that with little fabric you can have a sensual and special set: once you are able to understand the basic patterns you can play with them to create different garments with cutouts and gaps filled with elastic. Of all the existing models, one of the ones with less fabric but still comfortable are the bralette and colaless band-aid sets. These designs are simple but it is enough to use a beautiful fabric for the whole set to be too 😃.
Lo que más me gusta de la lencería es que con poca tela podes tener un conjunto sensual y especial: una vez que sos capaz de entender los moldes básicos se puede jugar con ellos para crear distintas prendas con recortes y faltantes rellenados con elásticos. De todos los modelos existentes, uno de los que tienen menos tela pero igual son cómodos son los conjuntos de bralette y colaless de tiritas. Estos diseños son sencillos pero solo basta con usar una tela hermosa para que todo el set también lo sea 😃.
The lace that I used this time was one of the many discards that my seamstress friend gave me. She wants to get rid of a lot of her bits and pieces and I'm happy to take them if I can envision them turning into some good project. This piece was a rectangle of elasticated lace in a greyish color with blue reflections, really beautiful: I think they had tried to make a band with it but for some reason they left it abandoned. Perhaps the reason was so that it came into my hands😅.
La puntilla que usé esta vez era uno de los tantos descartes que mi amiga costurera me regaló. Ella quiere deshacerse de muchos de sus retazos y yo con gusto los recibo si puedo visualizar que se van a convertir en algún buen proyecto. Este pedazo era un rectángulo de puntilla elastizada en un color grisáceo con reflejos azules, realmente hermoso: creo que habían intentado hacer un bandó con él pero por alguna razón lo dejaron abandonado. Quizás la razón fue para que llegue a mis manos 😅.
Luckily for me, this piece was just one meter long, the minimum size to make an outfit in my size. I was happy to see this, although if I didn't have enough fabric I was going to choose to fill in the gaps with black fabric (as always). Planning and arranging how I was going to cut all the pieces took me a while: I didn't have much room for error, so I better be sure. After a bit of ingenuity, everything clicked together perfectly 😃.
Para mi suerte, este retazo tenía justo un metro, la medida mínima para hacer un conjunto de mi talle. Me alegré al ver esto, aunque si no me alcanzaba la tela iba a optar por completar los faltantes con tela negra (como siempre). Planificar y acomodar como iba a cortar todas las piezas me llevó un rato: no tenía mucho margen para el error, así que mejor asegurarse. Después de un poco de ingenio, todo encajó perfectamente bien 😅.
I'm already getting used to making sets and both garments simultaneously, so I developed a system of first making all the fabric joints, then sewing the elastics with the first seam, then the second, continuing with the accoutrements and finally placing the straps. The truth is that doing this simplifies the work a lot and both pieces are uniform 😃.
Ya me estoy acostumbrando a hacer conjuntos y ambas prendas en simultáneo, así que desarrollé un sistema de hacer primero todas las uniones de tela, después coser los elásticos con la primera costura, luego la segunda, continuar con los avíos y finalmente colocar los breteles. La verdad es que hacer esto simplifica bastante el trabajo y ambas piezas quedan uniformes 😃.
Going through my supply box I found things that I didn't even remember I had: the last time I had made a large purchase of materials I had acquired a special elastic called "retention". This elastic is very thin and cheap and is used to sew it inside the lace to generate the characteristic gathers. I had completely forgotten about this elastic and all this time I was using my expensive and decorative elastic for this very purpose, but I will not think about the money I was wasting on it 😂.
Revisando mi caja de insumos encontré cosas que ni me acordaba que tenía: la última vez que había hecho una compra grande de materiales había adquirido un elástico especial llamado "de retención". Este elástico es muy finito y barato y sirve para coserlo por dentro de la puntilla para generar los frunces característicos. Me había olvidado completamente de este elástico y todo este tiempo estuve usando mi elástico del caro y decorativo para este mismo propósito, pero no voy a pensar en el dinero que estuve desperdiciando en eso 😂.
My first day of sewing only went so far, when I finished sewing all the necessary elastics. My weekend still had a lot of time to go, so I had the luxury of doing things ahead of time. Besides, I've already learned that if I don't do things in a hurry, things turn out better for me ❣️.
Mi primer día de costura solo fue hasta ahí, cuando terminé de coser todos los elásticos necesarios. Mi fin de semana todavía tenía mucho tiempo por delante, así que me podía tomar el lujo de hacer las cosas con tiempo. Además, ya aprendí que si no hago las cosas apuradas me salen mejor ❣️.
My second day of sewing was all about attaching the accoutrements and elastics. It was already late at night but since everyone had fallen asleep, I was inspired to finish sewing. For the bodice of this outfit I sewed the straps directly to the top piece, without using a metal ring in the front. I think this is a little prettier, it's easier and by the way it saves me inputs 😅.
Mi segundo día de costura se trató de colocar los avíos y los elásticos. Ya era tarde a la noche pero como todos se habían dormido, estaba inspirada para terminar de coser. Para el corpiño de este conjunto cosí los breteles directamente a la pieza superior, sin usar argolla metálica en el frente. Creo que esto queda un poco más lindo, es más fácil y de paso me hace ahorrar insumos 😅.
What took me a bit of time was finishing deciding the size of the straps at the bottom. I don't like panties that fit me at the hips, and in my notebook I had many measurements written down without knowing which one to pay attention to. In the end I ended up paying attention to my logic of measuring the mold and discounting the amount occupied by the fabric and I must tell you that I was right 😃.
Lo que me tomó un poco de tiempo fue terminar de decidir la medida de las tiras de la parte de abajo. No me gusta que las bombachas me ajusten en la cadera, y en mi cuaderno de anotaciones tenía muchas medidas anotadas sin saber a cuál hacerle caso. Al final terminé haciendole caso a mi lógica de medir el molde y descontar lo ocupado por la tela y debo decirles que acerté 😃.
As sleep won me over, I needed a third day of sewing and a photo session. As a final detail, I added these silver charms with rhinestones that I think turned out to be very pretty. This was also because I forgot to buy my black ribbon to make bows again, but it is being a good opportunity to use the metal charms. What do you think, do you prefer charms or bows on your undergarments? 😃
Como el sueño me ganó, necesité un tercer día de costura y sesión de fotos. Como detalle final, añadí estos dijes plateados con strass que me parece que quedaron muy lindos. Esto también fue porque otra vez me olvidé de comprar mi cinta negra para hacer moños, pero está siendo una buena oportunidad para usar los dijes de metal. ¿Qué les parece, prefieren dijes o moños en sus prendas interiores? 😃
Honestly when I saw the lace I didn't think it was going to be so pretty, definitely the elastics and the metallic accoutrements gave it a special and beautiful touch 😍.

Honestamente cuando vi el encaje no pensé que iba a quedar tan lindo, definitivamente los elásticos y los avíos metálicos le dieron un toque especial y hermoso 😍.
Making this set in easy installments over my long weekend was a great way to feel productive these days. It was also a good opportunity to breathe new life into this patch that turned out to have great potential. Every time I do a new project I am glad that sewing is my most entertaining and useful hobby: since I do this, my wardrobe is more varied than ever and my self-esteem thanks it too ❤️.
Haber hecho este conjunto en cómodas cuotas durante mi fin de semana largo fue una buena manera de sentirme productiva estos días. También fue una buena oportunidad para darle nueva vida a este retazo que resultó tener un gran potencial. Cada vez que hago un proyecto nuevo me alegro de que la costura sea mi pasatiempo más entretenido y útil: desde que hago esto, mi guardarropa está más variado que nunca y mi autoestima también lo agradece ❤️.
