I hope you are very well today and that you had a nice Christmas dinner with your families ❣️. I'm happy because a couple of days ago I felt useful and powerful after having been able to repair my sewing machine and not having a nervous breakdown in the attempt (it's a joke, I'm just exaggerating as always) 😅. But the truth is that having lost the fear of unscrewing the parts saved me some money that I could later use to buy more supplies ❤️.
Buen día amigos trabajadores de las agujas. O buenas tardes o buenas noches, lo que corresponda de acuerdo a su zona horaria. Espero que se encuentren muy bien hoy y que hayan tenido una linda cena de Navidad con sus familias ❣️. Yo estoy feliz porque hace un par de días me sentí útil y poderosa después de haber sido capaz de reparar mi máquina de coser y no tener un ataque de nervios en el intento (es chiste, solo exagero como siempre) 😅. Pero lo cierto es que haber perdido el miedo a destornillar las partes me hizo ahorrar algo de dinero que luego podría destinar a la compra de más insumos ❤️.
This machine has been with me for almost as long as my Hive blog: it was actually in my house several years ago (at least 10), but since no one knew how to sew we did not bother to repair it. Last year during the quarantine and with a lot of free time isolated it got into my head that I wanted to learn how to make women's lingerie, so my sister suggested that I fix the old machine and use it for that. At that time I was not well financially, I no longer had much work due to the pandemic so she paid me the arrangement as a birthday present in June 2020. Later I opened my Hive blog that same month so everything I learned to sew is documented here ❤️.
Esta máquina lleva conmigo casi el mismo tiempo que mi blog Hive: en realidad ya estaba en mi casa hace varios años (por lo menos 10), pero como nadie sabía coser no nos molestamos en repararla. El año pasado durante la cuarentena y con mucho tiempo libre aislada se me metió en la cabeza que quería aprender a hacer lencería de mujer, por lo que mi hermana sugirió que arreglara la vieja máquina y la usara para eso. En ese momento yo no estaba bien económicamente, ya no tenía tanto trabajo debido a la pandemia así que ella me pagó el arreglo a modo de regalo de cumpleaños en Junio 2020. Posteriormente abrí mi blog de Hive en ese mismo mes así que todo lo que aprendí a coser esta documentado aquí ❤️.
As you will see, this machine is quite old. It is a Necchi from the year 1960 and it belonged to my mother's grandmother's sister. In all this time I have learned all its tricks and I am the only one in my house who understands it. Since the first fix in June 2020 I had only had two more fixes with the machine mechanic: in December 2020 the pedal was broken and in June 2021 the belt was cut. I think these times are not so bad considering that it is a fairly old machine.
Como verán, esta máquina es algo antigua. Es una Necchi del año 1960 y pertenecía a la hermana de la abuela de mi mamá. En todo este tiempo aprendí todas sus mañas y soy la única en mi casa que la entiende. Desde el primer arreglo en junio 2020 solo había tenido dos arreglos más con el mecánico de máquinas: en diciembre 2020 se rompió el pedal y en junio 2021 se cortó la correa. Pienso que estos tiempos no estan tan mal considerando que es una máquina bastante antigua.
This time what happened was that while I was traveling my mother wanted to sew something and said that suddenly the machine stopped working. She said "there was a noise from the motor but the needle was not moving." I immediately knew it was the broken belt again. Either way it wasn't my mom's fault, it was actually more a matter of just breaking up at that point.
En esta oportunidad lo que ocurrió fue que mientras yo estaba de viaje mi mamá quiso coser alguna cosa y dijo que de repente la máquina dejó de funcionar. Dijo que "se escuchaba un ruido del motor pero la aguja no se movía". Inmediatamente supe que era la correa rota otra vez. De cualquier modo no fue culpa de mi mamá, en realidad era más una cuestión de que justo se terminó de romper en ese momento.
What gives me the most laziness of the whole business of taking the machine to the mechanic is WHAT IT WEIGH. This machine is made entirely of metal, it should weigh about 8 thousand tons without exaggeration. And I have to take it by bus, which makes everything even more tedious. So my mom suggested that we could fix it ourselves, as she found this how-to video that seemed pretty straightforward.
Lo que más pereza me da de todo el asunto de llevar la máquina al mecánico es LO QUE PESA. Esta máquina es íntegramente de metal, debe pesar unas 8 mil toneladas sin exagerar. Y la tengo que llevar en colectivo, lo que hace todo aún más tedioso. Entonces mi mamá sugirió que podríamos arreglarla nosotras mismas, ya que había encontrado este video explicativo que parecía bastante sencillo.
I saw the tutorial several times and it was really easy, but since I am a person who does not usually take anything apart, I was somewhat scared. Actually I only had to remove 4 screws BUT IT DIDN'T MATTER. My main fear was ruining it worse 😭.
Vi el tutorial varias veces y en verdad era fácil, pero como soy una persona que no suele desarmar nada tuve algo de miedo. En realidad solo tenía que sacar 4 tornillos PERO NO IMPORTABA. Mi principal miedo era arruinarla peor 😭.
Ultimately what I did was remove the engine cover, the top cover and loosen the flywheel. Once there, I was able to hook the new strap (which by the way was quite inexpensive) and they will. Problem solved ❤️.
En definitiva lo que hice fue retirar la tapa del motor, la tapa de arriba y aflojar el volante. Una vez ahí, ya pude enganchar la correa nueva (que por cierto me salió bastante económica) y tarán. Problema solucionado ❤️.
Well, I really had to do some force praying that nothing slips out of place. Luckily my little sister helped me a little with this, because the part to wind the thread kept moving. It goes without saying that we fill ourselves with oil 😅.
Bueno, en verdad tuve que hacer algo de fuerza rogando que nada se salga de su lugar. Por suerte mi hermanita me ayudó un poco con esto, porque la parte para bobinar el hilo se movía a cada rato. No está demás decir que nos llenamos de grasa 😅.
When doing all the inverse steps to put the screws back I found that the machine did not turn when I stepped on the pedal, it only did so manually. This made me a little nervous but I was thinking "boy, they're an engineer, I have to figure out how to fix this" and it was. It was only enough to see that some parts on the steering wheel had to necessarily coincide for everything to rotate as a whole ❤️.
Al momento de hacer todos los pasos inversos para volver a poner los tornillos me encontré con que la máquina no giraba al pisar el pedal, solo lo hacía de manera manual. Esto me puso un poco nerviosa pero pensaba "chico, son ingeniera, tengo que ingeniarmelas para arreglar esto" y así fue. Solo bastó con ver que unas partes en el volante debían coincidir necesariamente para que todo gire en conjunto ❤️.
And the same happened with the cover: it could not fit but it was because there was a small piece that had to be hooked first. Another thing I did taking advantage of the fact that I disassembled everything was CLEAN IT: there was a lot of fluff everywhere and I took it out. Perhaps that also makes the machine jerk and call for help in its own way 😅.
Y lo mismo ocurrió con la tapa: no la podía encastrar pero era porque había una pequeña pieza que debía engancharse primero. Otra cosa que hice aprovechando que desarmé todo fue LIMPIARLA: había bastantes pelusas por todas partes y las saqué. Quizás eso también hace que la máquina se retobe y pida auxilio a su manera 😅.
Once I plugged it in and saw that everything was working properly, I felt powerful. I always like to learn new things, and encouraging me to disassemble my machine was something I wanted to do for a long time. I think that if I understand the internal mechanisms I will be able to handle it better and everything. Now I am happy because I will be able to participate in the last challenge of the year for our community Needle Work Monday, to which by the way, everyone is invited. We will see each other the following Monday to see what occurred to me then ❤️.
Una vez que la enchufé y ví que todo andaba como correspondía me sentí poderosa. Siempre me gusta aprender cosas nuevas, y animarme a desarmar mi máquina era algo que quería hacer hace tiempo. Pienso que si entiendo los mecanismos internos voy a poder manejarla mejor y todo. Ahora estoy feliz porque voy a poder participar en el último desafío del año de nuestra comunidad Needle Work Monday, al cual por cierto, estan todos invitados.
