Hello Hive
A beautiful new day to my community here. I hope that this week has been productive so far. For me, I have been going up and down taking care of my siblings and everyone around me. It hasn't been easy playing the mother to younger ones, especially when it comes to the responsibility of providing for their needs.
One of my elder sisters, who lost a baby at childbirth, has been suffering from postpartum depression. It hasn't been easy splitting my time to look out for everyone while still maintaining my own sanity. Yet in the midst of it all, I still have to continue personal daily work and watch out for my career and financial growth. We have to live a purposeful life after all. Everything is a bit overwhelming, I must admit, but I believe that sooner rather than later things will get better.
Easter is around the corner, and since we are already in Passion Week, Easter Sunday will be here in no distant time.
And like you should all know, this is one of the celebrations we all value as Christians. And in the same vein, we love to celebrate our festivities in traditional wear most of the time. Traditional/cultural wear is one of our symbols of celebration.
We have thought about wearing a traditional uniform in my church choir, but the fabric seller has been disappointing us since Monday of this week, when we have gone to purchase fabric from them. The bank transfer of the funds we made to the fabric seller's account was flagged, and the money was left hanging. The fabric seller isn't kind enough to release the fabric until she receives the credit alert of the funds.
This is a total sign of a show of lack of trust. I'm surprised to see that not many people trust each other around here, and even if a single individual can scam someone, will a whole church choir also sit down to dub a fabric seller?. We were really disappointed and had to resort to other decisions.
Now everyone has been asked to dress in whatever traditional outfit they have. I had to wake up and prepare ahead of Sunday if I was going to minister. Any delay can cause me to not get an outfit ready for Sunday.
Each time I look into my closet, it is always as if there is nothing worth wearing. I kept searching and searching until I found this fabric and decided to transform it.
Each time I am sewing an outfit, I always try all I can to bring out the best in the outfit. And while working, if I get short of ideas, I abandon such an outfit for a while, but for this, I started sewing this dress when I was pretty young in fashion, and since I couldn't get an idea of how to complete the sewing, I have abandoned it for 3 years now....
I unpicked the seams. I retook my measurements and tried to continue sewing, but each time I do that, I realize more mistakes in the dress.
This made me rip off the entire dress, and taking it out, I started working on it all over again.
The lower part was recut to my current measurements, as I have lost much of my right
I made a princess dart for the upper bodice.
Then thought of how to design it.
The idea of adding pearls and beads came, and having placed a prior template on the image cloth, it all looked beautiful, but beading will take so much of my time hence to see the dress. 3 hours is what I can save to sew the dress, so I kept thinking.
Boom! 💥 💥 💥 💥 The bias idea came
It seemed like a local idea, but I was willing to give it a try.
I sewed in bias at measured intervals on the dress yoke.
I didn't expect that it would be this beautiful, but I was pleased with the outcome.
Then I continued sewing, turning the neck and hemline. Then next were the sleeves. I searched the entire house before seeing the remaining piece of the fabric. It can't make me long sleeves; hence, I stuck to a short balloon sleeve.
Reshaping the dress with my current measurements
Sewing and fixing of zippers, I like how the zipper aligned so much at the back here, it no doubt made my dress prettier.
And that brings my dress to completion. The dress turned out so beautiful, even though I didn't have much time to do the beading design. I was eventually able to creatively complete this pretty dress, and my Easter outfit is ready.
