Success in the qualifying round of the SockMadness
Ich habe mein Paar Socken am Freitagabend 15 Stunden vor der Frist fertiggestellt - ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass zwei Wochen eine so kurze Zeit sein können ;) Aber damit kam der nächste Teil der Probleme: Fotos machen, von innen und von außen. Mit Zentimetermaß und so, dass die Details gut zu erkennen sind. Natürlich wurde ich abends fertig - und Fotos bei Kunstlicht? Nicht die Stärke von Handys. Ich wollte aber nicht bis zum nächsten Vormittag warten - vielleicht war mir ja doch ein Fehler entgangen, den ich dann verbessern müsste. Und das war besser mit mehr Zeit. Also fast eine Stunde lang Fotos gemacht ("zu unscharf", "zu viel Reflektionen") und dann die annehmbarsten davon eingereicht und auf die Zusage gewartet. Die kam auch recht fix und so gehöre ich zu den über 1000 Leuten, die an der Sock Madness teilnehmen werden (genaue Zahlen habe ich noch nicht, kommen nächste Woche).
I finished my pair of socks on Friday evening 15 hours before the deadline - I never thought that two weeks could be such a short time ;) But with that came the next part of the problems: Taking pictures, inside and out. With centimetre measurements and in such a way that the details are easy to see. Of course I finished in the evening - and photos in artificial light? Not the strength of mobile phones. But I didn't want to wait until the next morning - maybe I had missed a mistake after all, which I would then have to correct. And that was better with more time. So I took photos for almost an hour ("too fuzzy", "too much reflection") and then submitted the most acceptable of them and waited for approval. That came pretty fast and so I'm one of the more than 1000 people who will participate in the Sock Madness (I don't have exact numbers yet, they'll come next week).

Ich bin natürlich am nächsten Vormittag hinaus in den Garten, "schöne" Fotos machen. Tja, die gelb/rot Töne des Garnes sehen vor grün scheußlich aus. Also gab es ein langweiliges Foto auf weißem Papier. Interessant an diesem Muster finde ich, dass die Muster an Schaft und Fuß von außen fast gleich aussehen, von innen sieht man jedoch, dass sie ganz unterschiedlich gearbeitet sind. Ich hab also schon in der Vorrunde viel gelernt - und das ist für mich auch der Sinn meiner Teilnahme.
I went out into the garden the next morning to take "nice" photos. Well, the yellow/red tones of the yarn look awful before green. So I took a boring photo on white paper. What I find interesting about this pattern is that the fabric on the shaft and the foot look almost the same from the outside, but from the inside you can see that they are worked very differently. So I already learned a lot in the preliminary round - and that's the point of my participation.
Ach ja, hatte ich erwähnt, dass mir die Socken zu groß sind? Vor allem haben sie einen sehr langen und weiten Schaft - mal schauen, ob ich einen Abnehmer finde im Familien- oder Freundeskreis.
By the way, did I mention that the socks are too big for me? Above all, they have a very long and wide shaft - let's see if I can find a recipient among family or friends.
Es geht jetzt bald weiter, morgen vermutlich wird die Zusammenstellung der Teams bekannt gegeben, meist einen Tag darauf kommen die näheren Angaben zu benötigtem Material (Garn, Nadeln etc.) und dann wiederum einen oder zwei Tage später kommt die Anleitung. Und das ist der Moment, wo der Timer wieder anfängt zu ticken und man sich sputen muss: wer zu langsam ist, fliegt raus (letztes Jahr begann ein Team mit 36 Leuten und es kamen nach der ersten Runde nur 30 weiter). Nächste Woche kann ich euch also mehr erzählen!
It will continue soon, tomorrow probably the composition of the teams will be announced, usually one day later the details of the required material (yarn, needles etc.) will be given and then again one or two days later the patterns will follow. And this is the moment when the timer starts ticking again and you have to hurry up: if you are too slow, you will be eliminated (last year a team of 36 people started and after the first round only 30 made it further). Next week I can tell you more!
What's on my needles
Ziemlich viel ;) Hier ist das Muscheltuch in ungefähr Reihe 160 von 240 mit 400 Maschen auf den Nadeln (es werden 550 Maschen in den letzten Reihen sein). Ich stricke das Tuch mit Pausen seit Oktober und habe mir keine Frist gesetzt - qué será, será ;)
