2n Round of SockMadness / Zweite Runde der SockMadness
Am Samstagmorgen kam die Anleitung für die neue Runde und ich habe schnell Garn ausgesucht und angefangen zu stricken. Die Anleitung trägt den schönen Namen "Braidalot" - was übersetzt so etwas wie "viele Zöpfe" bedeutet. Und das stimmt auch!
On Saturday morning the pattern for the new round of SockMadness came and I quickly chose yarn and started knitting. The pattern has the beautiful name "Braidalot" - and that's true!
Das querverlaufende, pfeilartige Muster sind "Latvian Braids", übersetzt "lettische Zöpfe" (obwohl ich nicht weiß ob es dafür einen deutschen Ausdruck gibt), das schwarz-weiße ist ein "Celtic Braid", also ein keltischer Zopf. Und den Socken entlang ziehen sich weitere Zopfmuster, entweder über zwei oder drei Maschen. Was vielleicht nicht auf dem ersten Blick auffällt: die Socken sind spiegelverkehrt, was auf dem linken Socken linksgerichtet ist, das ist im rechten Socken rechtsgerichtet.
The horizontal, arrow-like design are "Latvian Braids", the black and white is a "Celtic Braid". And along the socks there are other cable patterns, either over two or three stitches. What might not be noticeable at first sight: the socks are mirror images, what is left-directed on the left sock is right-directed on the right sock.
Schwierig ist davon eigentlich nur der zweifarbige keltische Zopf, wenn man mit Stranded Knitting nicht vertraut ist. Nach den "Diamond Duality" in der ersten Runde waren diese zwölf Reihen allerdings kein Problem für mich. Gut, ich habe es geschafft im rechten Socken, mit dem begonnen wurde, das Muster für den linken zu stricken... Musste ich glücklicherweise nicht wieder aufmachen, sondern muss nur im linken Socken das Muster für den rechten nehmen ;)
The only difficult part of it is the two-coloured Celtic plait, for those who are not familiar with stranded knitting. After the "Diamond Duality" in the first round, these twelve rows were no problem for me. Well, I managed it in the right sock, which was the one to be knit first, to use the pattern for the left one... Fortunately I didn't have to undo everything, I just have to take the pattern for the right one in the left sock ;)
Der Latvian Braid ist beinahe erschreckend einfach - es ist nur Fummelkram. Man hat den Faden vor der Arbeit und verkreuzt bei jeder Masche die Fäden (ich habe unten ein Video verlinkt). Bei den Zöpfen muss man ein wenig aufpassen, wann man nach links und wann man nach rechts kreuzen muss - ich hatte gestern schon eine "Operation am offenen Zopf" und war danach ziemlich fertig!
The Latvian Braid is almost startlingly simple - it's just slow work. You hold the both threads before the work and cross the threads at each stitch (I have linked a video below). With the cables you have to be a bit careful when crossing to the left and when crossing to the right - I already had an "operation on the open cable" yesterday and was pretty exhausted afterwards!
Ich bin heute schon ein gutes Stück in die Fersenkonstruktion gekommen - interessanterweise nimmt man dafür am Bein zu. Ich bin gespannt, wie das weitergeht und wie die Ferse hinterher sitzt.
I've already gotten quite a bit into the heel construction today - interestingly enough you increase on the leg part for the heel. I am curious to see how this will continue and how the heel will fit afterwards.
Der Socken wurde mit 72 Maschen angeschlagen, passt mir aber pberraschenderweise mit einer "bequemen Weite" am Bein. Sollte dies ein Paar Socken werden, die ich tragen kann - weder zu eng noch zu weit? Lassen wir uns überraschen, nächste Woche kann ich euch wohl mehr erzählen.
The sock was cast on with 72 stitches, but surprisingly fits me with a "comfortable width" on the leg. Should this be a pair of socks that I can wear - neither too tight nor too wide? Let's wait and see, next week I'll probably be able to tell you more.
Ach ja, die Anleitung kam wie gesagt Samstag Vormittag, es ist also noch Zeit bis übernächsten Samstag. Im Moment sind insgesamt schon 51 von 750 Teilnehmern fertig, in meiner Gruppe sind es drei. 30 Plätze gibt es in der nächsten Runde, die letzten sechs werden auf der Strecke bleiben. Ich muss mich also sputen!
By the way, the pattern came Saturday morning, , so there is time until the Saturday after next. At the moment 51 of 750 participants have already finished, in my group there are three who already knit a pair of these socks. There are 30 places in the next round, the last six will fall by the wayside. So I have to hurry!

- Zwischen den Runden habe ich ein wenig an den meinem SockMadness Team den Namen gebenden "Scrappie" Socken gestrickt - das Muster mache ich sicher nicht zum letzten Mal!
I worked a bit on the "Scrappie" socks, which gave my team its name. Probably not the last time I will knit this pattern.

I added some rows to my Seashell shawl.
