Das ist mein "Gruppenbild" der diesjährigen SockMadness. Es fehlt der Socken der letzten Runde, an dem wird noch gestrickt. Auch habe ich bei einige Socken bisher nur einen gefertigt, das wird in den nächsten Wochen nachgeholt.
This is my "group photo" of this year's SockMadness. The socks of the last round are missing, they are still being knitted on. Also, I have only made one sock of some patterns so far, this will be made up in the next weeks.
Und jetzt ist der letzte Socken in Arbeit, endlich kommen die Perlen. Darüber hatten sich einige Teilnehmerinnen schon im Februar vor dem Wettbewerb Sorgen gemacht. Aber das Stricken mit Perlen ist wirklich ganz einfach. Ich mag das Muster und findet ihr nicht auch, dass einen Engel zeigt, sogar mit Stricknadel in der Hand? Jedenfalls, wenn man die Augen leicht schließt und etwas schräg geschaut ;)
And now the last sock is in the works, finally it's time for the beads. Some participants had already been worried about this in February before the competition. But knitting with beads is astonishingly simple. I like the pattern and don't you think it shows an angel, even one with a knitting needle in your hand? At least if you close your eyes slightly and look a little bit slanted ;)
Die Geschichte dieser Sockenanleitung hängt zusammen mit der ganzen diesjährigen SockMadness. Die Anleitung stammt von einer Designerin die im letzten Jahr nach schwerer Krankheit verstorben ist. Adrienne Fong war immer aktiv an dem Event beteiligt gewesen, hatte Anleitungen zur Verfügung gestellt und anderes. Deswegen wurde dann auch die Entscheidung getroffen, die Teams des diesjährigen Wettbewerbes nach Sockenanleitungen von ihr zu benennen. Und, so hatte sie selber entschieden, ihre letzte Anleitung sollte auch die letzte Anleitung dieses Wettbewerbs sein. Sie war ein Fan von Lace, vom stricken mit Perlen und diese Anleitung ist wie viele von ihr: wunderschön anzuschauen aber gar nicht so schwierig zu stricken. Ich denke, ich werde noch einige andere Anleitung von ihr stricken, denn welch schöneres Gedenken an eine Designerin von Socken gibt es, als ihre Socken zu stricken und zu tragen.
The story of this sock pattern is connected with the whole SockMadness of this year. The instruction is by a designer who died last year after a serious illness. Adrienne Fong had always been actively involved in the event, providing patterns and more. That's why the decision was made to name the teams of this year's competition after sock patterns made by her. And, as she herself had decided, her last pattern should also be the last pattern of this competition. She was a fan of Lace, of knitting with beads and this pattern is like many of hers: beautiful to look at but not so difficult to knit. I think I will knit some more patterns from her, because what better way to remember a sock designer than to knit and wear her socks.
Der gestreifte Pulli / The Striped Sweater
Mit dem Pullover bin ich nicht viel weiter gekommen. Das liegt einerseits daran, das es schon mehr als 400 Maschen sind, die ich da auf der Nadel habe. Andererseits habe ich jetzt nach dem Ende der Madness nicht mehr wirklich viel Lust zum Stricken. Ich nehme es jetzt ganz langsam - der Weg ist das Ziel.
I didn't get much further with the sweater. One reason is that there are already more than 400 stitches on the needle. On the other hand I don't really feel like knitting anymore after the end of madness. I take it very slowly now - the way is the goal.
Was ich allerdings gemacht habe ist mir die Arbeit zu erleichtern. Das Garn kommt in kleinen 50g Knäueln, die schnell auseinanderfallen. Man sieht es auf dem Bild am orangen Wollhaufen. Und deshalb habe ich meinen Garnwickler genommen und einfach vier Knäuel zusammen zu einem schönen großen Bobbel gewickelt. Ihr seht ihn einmal ohne und einmal mit Netz darüber. So hält das Garn zusammen und fällt nicht auseinander - viel schöneres Stricken.
But what I have done is to make my work easier. The yarn comes in small 50g balls that fall apart quickly. You can see in the picture on the orange pile of wool... So I took my yarn winder and wrapped four balls together to a nice big bobble. You see it once without and once with net around it. This way the yarn holds together and doesn't fall apart - much better knitting.
Färben mit Kool-Aid / Dyeing with Kool-Aid
Und ich habe einmal wieder gefärbt - ich hatte ja noch zwei Tüten Kool-Aid in der Schublade (jetzt nur noch eine Tüte). Unter meinen alten Sockengarnen war dieses "interessant" gefärbte Garn. Gelb, orange und pink gehören nicht unbedingt zusammen meiner Meinung nach.
And I dyed again - I still had two bags of Kool-Aid in the drawer (now only one bag). Among my old sock yarns was this "interesting" dyed yarn. Yellow, orange and pink do not really belong together in my opinion.
Färben mit Kool-Aid ist wirklich viel einfacher als mit anderen Lebensmittelfarben. Da schon Säure im Getränkepulver ist, muss man das Garn nicht vorbereiten.
Colouring with Kool-Aid is actually much easier than with other food colourants. Since there is already acid in the beverage powder, there is no need to prepare the yarn.

Mein Fazit zum Färben mit Kool-Aid: einfach, und interessant. Ich würde damit keine neue Wolle kunstvoll in mehreren Farben färben, aber zum Überfärben ist es gut geeignet.
My conclusions about dyeing with Kool-Aid: simple and interesting. I wouldn't use it to dye new wool artfully in several colours, but it is good for over-dyeing. Here is what the magazine Knitty wrote about it 18 years ago :)
