Hello needlework fam! 👋
I wanted to share a piece I just finished and take you behind the scenes. I’ve been working with beads for about 8 months now, but this is the first time I challenged myself to make a full beaded handbag from scratch.
The color? Ruby red. Why? Because it’s bold, classy, and works for both weddings and everyday wear here in Nigeria.
Step 1: Sourcing & Prep
It all started with this pack of “Best Beads” – faceted acrylic beads that catch light beautifully. oh !!!! this is exactly what i wanted is so beautiful!!!!❤️
I poured them out to check for defects and sort out any cloudy pieces. Consistency matters if you want that clean, even shine and of course it was a go ahead for me.
Step 2: The Threading Process
I used 0.4mm nylon thread because it’s strong but flexible enough for tight weaves. Patience is key here – one wrong pull and the whole pattern shifts. This part should not be jokes with cause one wrong moves everything goes wrong
Starting with the base pattern was the hardest part. Once the first 5 rows lock in, the rest flows faster.
Step 3: Building the Structure
After 2 days, the strap and body started taking shape. I went with a criss-cross weave for strength. It uses more beads but won’t sag when you carry it.So give it the best nd watch the result speak!!!!
Here’s the handle coming together. I double-stitched this part because it takes the most stress.
Step 4: The Finished Piece
And here’s the final bag! 3 days, roughly 18 hours of work, and about 1,200 beads later. I am so happy it came out so NICE!!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The shape holds well, and the faceted beads give it that glass-like sparkle in sunlight. I’m really proud of how clean the edges came out. My happiness is that my hours of handwork finally gives me a glowing sparkling RUBBY RED ❤️ BAG🥹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Materials Used:
Ruby red faceted acrylic beads
0.4mm nylon thread
Beading needle
About 18 hours total
what to know while beading:
Always check your beads before starting. 50 bad beads can ruin the look.
Don’t rush the base. A messy foundation = a messy bag.
Natural light photos show the real color better than flash.
I’d love to hear your thoughts! Have you made a beaded bag before? What pattern or color would you try next?
If you like the process posts, I can do a quick tutorial on the weave pattern I used. Let me know in the comments.
