This is a continuation of my sewing journey, I was really inspired by myself so I decided to share 😊.
I currently work as a personal assistant to the pastor of a church, I love writing alot it's my favorite thing to do when I'm at work and I am really passionate about fashion. It gets so overwhelming when I try to balance my passion, my hobby and my job.
I only get to make clothes when I get back from work and sometimes it is not enough.
I can't quit my job right now because then I'll be broke and broken without a guaranteed source of income, and besides it's not very logical at this point. I Know that I can begin to make money from my hobby and my passion, but I still feel like I have alot of work to do on myself, alot of fine-tuning and refixing, I still need to build on my skills very well, to an excellent standard before I think of commercializing them.
Sometimes I feel like I'm wasting my time, I get so overwhelmed by the fact that I know where I want to be and what I want to do but I feel I'm not ready yet.
The truth is when opportunity meets preparation the chances of exceeding desired result is high, and I have a standard for myself that I must meet, I don't want to be associated with inferior quality, what I mean by that is, I don't want to settle for less, I want to be a person of great quality and I know this requires a lot of work and effort.
This dress that I made is quite basic because I didn't have alot of the fabric I used so I figured there has to be a way to upgrade the style and make it a little more interesting, I decided to add the ruffles by the sides, so I call this dress "Two sided ruffled dress".
The first thing I did was get the fabric, initially I got the fabric to make a blouse for myself but apparently I changed my mind.
This fabric is called Ankara Fabric, made in Nigeria. It is often called native because it is mostly worn by natives.
I got all my sewing items, a pair of scissors, Sewing thread, zip etc. I proceeded to take my measurements and then cut out from the fabric, I didn't spend so much doing this because I already had a pattern of my measurements.
I added my zip to it, then I cut out what I used for my ruffles from the fabric that was left.
I sewed my ruffles to both sides of my dress by folding the fabric and Sewing over it.
I really enjoyed making this piece because I feel it was quite easy but very beautiful.
Even though it's not very complicated, I appreciate the fact that it is simple and beautiful 😍.
