Hey y'all! How's life been treating you? It's just a few weeks and we're going into the next year. Were you able to do the things you planned on doing this year? If you were, then good for you! Congratulations! If not, ah well, there's always next year. What matters is that you did your best. As for me with my crocheting, all I wanted was to make my year a productive crocheting year. I also wanted to startup my crocheting business. As it is, life has been happening to me a little bit faster than I expected with a little bit of surprises here and there.
Nonetheless, I was still able to fulfill my promise of making this year a productive crocheting year. Each month, I made sure I have at least 1 finished project. There were months that one small project seem too hard to complete. There are months though that I feel like I'm a crocheting machine finishing one project after another. Somehow, I was also able to start my business because I made a couple of bucks from some of my projects.
For today, I want to share a quick project that I made. This one is for my client of the year. My daughter had a ballet recital last Sunday at The Theatre at Solaire. I saw all the effort she exerted to make her performance remarkable. I thought about giving her a bouquet of flowers at the end of the recital. My sister bought her a bouquet of sunflowers and roses. I on the other hand crocheted her her favorite flower along with some tulips and daisies.
I wanted to make a realistic rose because she already has that one tiny little rose bud I made from before. She has always hinted that she wants one that looks real. Projects like this though seem to scare me because there's always something at the back of my head saying I might not be able to make it. You'd think years of experience in crocheting would give one the confidence but really there are a lot projects that stumps me.
I looked for tutorials and different photos that would help me in creating a realistic rose. I created one from a youtube video tutorial I watched. But after creating one realistic rose, I thought maybe I could give it my own spin. So for the second and the third roses, I did some experimenting. I made it a lot simpler and a lot easier to follow. There are 3 sets of petals. 4 pcs each of small, medium, and large. All of which are made using single crochets in a magic circle increasing until you are satisfied with the sizes. the large petals though needed to have a bit of edges so I did some chains after some 4 or 5 single crochet on the last row. Since nature's beauty is in the perfect imperfections of each of its creations, making a realistic rose was so much fun than the first few roses I made last year.
When I finished the 3 realistic roses, I felt it lacks something. Good thing I had some left over tulip bulbs from when I sold crochet flowers last Valentines day. I quickly made 3 tulips and added them with the 3 roses. Now, it still felt there's something missing. So I decided on adding 3 more daisies. I don't know what's with three but I kept on adding 3 of something. I'm so glad I stopped at the daisies. I still have a bulk order I'm still working on afterall.
After crocheting all of those flowers, it's now time to wrap the flowers into a beautiful bouquet. This I might say is the biggest struggle I met in this project. Well, that, aside from the fact that I had to create the flowers while the little ballerina is sleeping at night. Sneaky business I got there crocheting and wrapping flowers behind her back.
I was chatting with and told her there's no way I'm going to sell this at any price lower than PHP2000. But I was exaggerating a little bit. That was me stressing out over how to wrap the bouquet. Estimating from the flowers in it, I would probably sell it at Php1500-1600.
Overall, I am very much pleased with the outcome of this sneaky little project I made. My husband doesn't usually take photos of my projects but this definitely had a mini photoshoot with my husband. He's very supportive of my passion but with this one, I can really feel how much he liked it too.
When the little ballerina received it after her recital, she blurted "I knew it! It was for me!" Well, not very sneaky Nanay afterall. I don't think I could hide anything from a very observant child. Well, she loved it so much, I'm happy she's happy.
Looking at the finished product, I can't believe I was able to make that at a very short period. I used to think that I'm a slow crocheter, I guess I'm making much improvement. Of course, I don't want to sacrifice quality, that's why I'm always taking more time than others when working on a crochet project. But looking at this one, I am so happy with what I achieved. And to make it even better, I'm so happy that the little ballerina loved it.
