Bienvenidos a mi blog ✂️
It's my first time making an appearance by this beautiful community filled with lots and lots of creativity and talented people to show you my entry to the #NeedleWorkYourJeans contest 👖💗✨.
I am very excited to participate in this contest because my creation was conceived and executed with my nieces in mind. They are two very coquettish girls. I currently live in Spain but they live in Venezuela. Every year, I send them a box with cute little things that I buy and keep for them. Since I saw an excellent opportunity to make them something nice with my hands, I took the opportunity to create something practical, useful and useful. That's why I decided to make them a cute and original purse 👛🪙
Although denim is a very versatile textile made of natural cotton fibers, it is often mixed with other types of fabrics such as polyester, for example. I love its characteristic indigo blue color and have created a piece with a lot of love for this project because it is easy to handle. That's why it's used a lot in workwear for durability. Also, since I like to work with recycled materials, I used scraps of one of my old jeans that had already passed away but I always keep scraps to make heels or mend other pieces of clothing.
To recreate these cute purses you will need:
✓ Una pieza de jean que ya no uses. Yo usé la bota de un jean viejo.
✓ Aguja, tijera, regla.
✓ Hilos color azul (tono del jean), amarillo y blanco.
✓ Aplicaciones para tela, botones de colores, torchón decorativo o cintas de razo decorativas a tu gusto.
✓ Alfileres para fijar.
✓ Cintas elásticas.
✓ A piece of jean that you no longer wear. I used the boot of an old jean.
✓ Needle, scissors, ruler.
✓ Blue (shade of the jean), yellow and white threads.
✓ Fabric appliques, colored buttons, decorative torchon or decorative loop ribbons to your liking.
✓ Pins for fastening.
✓ Elastic ribbons.
Elaboración // Elaboration:
Measure and cut out a rectangle from the jean fabric with the following measurements: Width 12 cm x Length 22 cm.
Step 2. With the help of a ruler, measure and note with a pencil 4cm on the inside of the jean fabric in the direction of the height of the piece, for what will be the flap or flap closure of the purse.
Step 3. To join all the edges of the internal seams, leave a 5 mm thick space, prepare blue thread and a needle, and start sewing using the "back stitch" sewing technique. I like this technique because the final finish is like that of an industrial machine, if the stitching is done evenly and neatly.
Step 4. To sew the edges of the flap or flap closure, make a fold that is fixed with the help of pins. Once all the edges of the purse have been sewn and joined with this technique, proceed to sew the pink flamingo-shaped fabric appliqué with the white thread. Cut 8cms of the pink elastic ribbon for what will be the lid lock and sew it with a needle and blue thread on the outside, just in the middle.
Step 5. Then proceed to glue with needle and yellow thread, the yellow decorative ribbon or torchon. Always using the same "back stitch" sewing technique. The button is sewn on at the height of the elastic lock.
To finish, sew with needle and yellow thread, the multicolored decorative patchwork on the bottom of the purse, on the side of the closing lid. Then in an inner corner, at the edge, sew a strip of satin ribbon for what will be the hand bracelet so as not to lose the purse. And we finish.
I made two purses with different fabric applications: a Flamingo and a Motivational Phrase, for each of my nieces. I hope you liked my creative process to make these super cute coin purses to keep coins, pigtails, bills and even candy too 🪙💸🍭🍬
