🇺🇸 ~ Last month we had an emergency ! ! 📢 Less than 4 days before celebrating Carnival, a dear friend receives an unexpected call from her children's teacher: "The Carnival troupe is no longer pirate-themed, now it's Flintstones themed 😝"
Que nadie se atreva a decir que la costura no clasifica como un deporte lleno de adrenalina porque COSER CONTRA RELOJ ES RE VIOLENTO 😎 🔥 Durante esta aventura tome todas las fotos que pude para traer un recorrido entretenido a la comunidad de NeedleeworkMonday porque sé que ustedes me entenderán; a pesar de lo estresante de la situación, nos reímos muchísimo y pude poner a prueba la velocidad y precisión de mi nueva máquina de coser.

Como menciono arriba, en el colegio donde estudian los niños de mi amiga tenían programada una actividad con disfraces de pirata. Pero a último momento las maestras cambiaron los planes y ya habíamos invertido dinero en otros materiales... Solo contábamos con 10$ y eso aunque parezca poco, es bastante si vas por la zona de telas de tapicería.
As I mentioned above, the school where my friend's children go to school had scheduled an activity with pirate costumes. But at the last minute the teachers changed the plans and we had already invested money in other materials... We only had $10 and that may not seem like a lot, but it is quite a lot if you are in the area of upholstery fabrics.

Mi amiga y yo nos mantuvimos en contacto durante toda la compra vía teléfono, por fotos y llamada para escoger las telas correctas. Ese mismo día corrí a sacar el patrón en base a una blusa de su niño, estos dias sufrimos otra vez de cortes en el servicio eléctrico así que estaba muy nerviosa haciendo todo con velocidad.
My friend and I kept in touch throughout the purchase via phone, photos and phone calls to choose the right fabrics. That same day I rushed to make the pattern based on a blouse of her child, these days we suffered again from power outages so I was very nervous doing everything with speed.

Mi idea original era simular la silueta clásica del traje del protagonista de la serie, pero agregando unos detalles extra a las mangas. Ya he fabricado estos "picos" antes asi que estaba muy confiada.
My original idea was to simulate the classic silhouette of the main character's costume from the series, but adding some extra details to the sleeves. I've made these "spikes" before so I was pretty confident.
✦ I was very hurt that after so much effort preparing the material, cutting and making those perfect little rolls, I had to throw everything away... they look good at this stage but when I flipped them over, they looked very very bad :( ✦
Lamentablemente la idea de los "picos" en las mangas quedo HORRIBLE, se veía mal y nada simpático y tuve que cortar las mangas enteras y retirarlas.
Unfortunately the idea of the "peaks" on the sleeves looked HORRIBLE and not at all nice and I had to cut the sleeves off and remove them.
✦ Fortunately I always leave several extra centimeters, I never make the patterns too small or too tight ✦
Pero no podía estancarme a llorar sobre la leche derramada. Corté con cuidado para retirar todas las mangas de diseño fallido y deje la suficiente tela para hacer un borde limpio pero que le diera forma de "hombros grandes" al niño; luego salte rápidamente a trabajar la parte inferior del traje.
But I couldn't stand to cry over spilled milk. I carefully cut to remove all the failed design sleeves and left just enough fabric to make a neat but shapely "big-shouldered" edge for the child; then quickly jumped to working the bottom of the suit.

A diferencia de los "picos" que prepare para las mangas, los "picos" inferiores quedaron ESPECTACULAR. Creo que mi error con los "picos" de las mangas es que era demasiado angostos en su base.
Unlike the "peaks" I prepared for the sleeves, the lower "peaks" were SPECTACULAR. I think my mistake with the sleeve "peaks" was that they were too narrow at the base.
✦ I CAN'T CONCENTRATE, THEIR CUTENESS DISTRACTS ME ✦
Normalmente trabajaría este tipo de proyectos en la mesa o el escritorio pero en esas superficies ya estaban llenas con otros disfraces que me habían encargado. Tuve que trabajar este traje en mi cama y no se si será eso lo que resulto tan atractivo para los gatitos de la casa, dejo que duerman donde quieran.
Normally I would work on this type of project at the table or desk but those surfaces were already filled with other costumes I had been commissioned to make. I had to work this costume on my bed and I don't know if that's what made it so appealing to the kitties in the house, I let them sleep wherever they wanted.
✦ I should have switched to the special foot for closures but I was so worried about the weather that I forgot about it ✦
Para comodidad del niño, instale en la espalda un cierre de plástico de 50 centímetros de largo del color más aproximado posible al color de la tela.
For the child's comfort, install on the back a 50 cm long plastic zipper as close as possible to the color of the fabric.

Para terminar la parte inferior y darle un mejor aspecto al resultado, después de voltear "los picos", sostuve sus bordes con alfileres pequeños y pase una costura muy cerca del margen. Así sostendrán su forma sin problema.
To finish the bottom and give a better look to the result, after flipping "the peaks", I hold their edges with small pins and pass a seam very close to the margin so they will hold their shape without any problem.

¡Esta parte fue la mas divertida!, recortar muchos triángulos y escoger la secuencia en que serian instaladas. Fue muy relajante 💗
This part was the most fun!, cutting out lots of triangles and choosing the sequence in which they would be installed. It was very relaxing 💗

✦ It was about 10 o'clock at night, the boy was very sleepy but he needed at least a test to pass the photos to his mother, who was on medical duty (she is a doctor and had to work that day) ✦
Y esa fue la improvisada aventura de cómo logramos fabricar un traje de "Los Picapiedra", sin materiales, con presupuesto limitado, contra reloj, y el ataque super efectivo de distracción de una legión de gatitos gorditos.
And that was the impromptu adventure of how we managed to make a "Flintstones" costume, with no materials, limited budget, against the clock, and the super effective diversionary attack of a legion of chubby kittens.
✦ "The Flintstones Beyond", a reebot of the franchise in 12-issue comic book format, the last one published in 2017; so if you look hard enough, you can probably already find the work translated in your language. I love you so much DC Comics uwu muah muah never change ✦
COMO DATO CURIOSO: ¿Sabías que en el año 2016 publicaron un nuevo comic sobre "Los Picapiedra"?, yo lo leí y ES ASOMBROSO, el dibujo, el guión, es buenísimo (ganó el premio Eisner en 2018 en las categorías "mejor serie limitada" y "mejor guionista"). Lo recomiendo ampliamente a todos aunque no hayan sido fans de la serie. Tiene planteamientos interesantes y mucho drama.
AS A CURIOUS FACT: Did you know that in 2016 they published a new comic about "The Flintstones", I read it and it IS AMAZING, the drawing, the script, it's great (it won the Eisner award in 2018 in the categories "best limited series" and "best screenwriter"). I highly recommend it to everyone even if they weren't fans of the series.** It has interesting approaches and lots of drama.
Y para concluir, el día de los festejos de carnaval todo salio bien, los niños estaban contentos, y yo recordé lo bueno que es aprovechar cada oportunidad para poner a prueba tus habilidades como artista textil. No debemos subestimar lo simple, todo lo contrario 😊 ✌
And to conclude, on the day of the carnival festivities everything went well, the children were happy, and I remembered how good it is to take advantage of every opportunity to test your skills as a textile artist. We should not underestimate the simple, quite the contrary 😊 ✌
