Inspired by this short movie, The Snowman(1982) is a beloved British animated short film based on Raymond Briggs' 1978 picture book of the same name, the film is celebrated for its artistry, emotional depth, and enduring charm.
This beautiful 25-minute movie is one I still love watching every Christmas. If you have children, it’s a must-see.
Inspired by the story, I decided to bring the snowman character to life through crochet. Surprisingly, I couldn’t find a crochet pattern for it during my research, so I decided to create my own.
I have crocheted as I go along, shaping this snowman as neareast as I could get.
With plenty of tea, a needle, and some yarn, I was happily occupied bringing this creation to life.

I wanted to copy the long body, so I have created an elongated one, but not long enough.
so, I added a bottom leg and flare as I wasn't happy with just an elongated body, making it closer to the snowman in the movie.
I shaped it as if it were carved, using decrease and increase stitches plus tension stitches.
I connected it to the body.
I assembled everything.
I embroidered a mouth, micro-crocheted the eyes, and then crocheted the orange nose.
He can stand up as well!
Not far. It's pretty similar and definitely will bring a smile to some faces this Christmas.
I was pleased to see this in Crochet. It captures the charm and nostalgia of The Snowman. It is inspiring that anyone who loves crocheting can bring their favourite characters to life.
Have a lovely day, everyone.
