No creo que haya duda alguna cuando digo que Superman es uno de los superheroes (si no es el que el mas) mas importante de la historia del comic y uno de los personajes mas iconicos de la cultura popular, desde sus inicios agarrando inspiracion de los heroes mitologicos antiguos y despues de casi una centena de años viviendo aventuras de la mano de distintos creativos en DC Comics se hacian una pregunta interesante despues de tantos numeros: ¿Que es lo que hace especial a Superman?, por supuesto aqui puedo escucharte detras de la pantalla contandome que es una pregunta estupida, despues de todo Clark Kent no es tu humano promedio y tampoco se puede decir que es un humano del todo, esta pregunta se la hizo el escritor Grant Morrison cuando lo contrataron para hacer una serie de comics que introdujese a Superman a los lectores del nuevo siglo, y es esta pregunta la que nos introduce a una de las mejores historias del hombre de acero.
Creo que palabra clave aqui es esencia y como Superman con el pasar de los años y las historias se ha convertido en un simbolo de justicia, del bien triunfando sobre el mal y en general de lo que es ser un superheroe, Grant Morrison tenia la tarea de encapsular todos estos valores en una historia y creo que con All-Star Superman alcanza a ser no solo una historia universal que se pueden entender afuera de la continuidad del universo DC sino tambien una historia contada a pie, con muchos momentos de introspeccion y en donde la reflexion y sus personajes son la base de cada uno de sus paneles, en mis propias palabras diria que es una celebracion del personaje.
Hay una anecdota de como el escritor Grant Morrison empezo a hacer los primeros bocetos de All-Star Superman despues de ver en una convencion previa a una entrevista a un hombre disfrazado de Superman:
"Él estaba sentado con una rodilla erguida, con la barbilla apoyada en sus brazos. Parecía totalmente relajado... y de repente me di cuenta de que así era como Superman se debía sentar. No hincharía el pecho o tendría una postura heroica, sino que estaría totalmente calmado. Si nada puede hacerte daño, puede darse el lujo de estar tranquilo. Un hombre como Superman nunca tendría que estar tenso ante el frío; nunca se estremecería frente a un golpe. Estaría totalmente relajado"
Superman esta muriendo.
Despues de imnumerables hazañas y de ayudar a millones de personas sus celulas empiezan a deteriorarse debido a la alta radiacion solar a la que ha sido expuesto con los años, Clark Kent estima que solo le queda un año de vida y empieza a reflexionar sobre el impacto y el legado que deja al mundo. Su relacion con Louis Lane que en muchos medios es hecha a un lado se vuelve uno de los principales focos de la trama que a lo largo de 12 numeros nos embarca en una serie de aventuras que no parecen tener relacion entre si pero en cada una de estas nos van responiendo la pregunta del inicio: Esto es Superman, al contrario de verlo como un dios todopoderoso el comic se enfoca mucho mas en historias terrenales de un superheroe, un humano, no como nosotros pero si la mejor version que podemos ser.
El set de 12 numeros comienza con un Superman en su mejor estado de forma, esta es una historia separada de sus aventuras con la Justice League pero cada tanto podemos ver en su mundo que existen e influencian, sin embargo el foco principal durante todos los tomos es Superman y Clark Kent, el comic si bien tiene varios momentos de accion la verdad es que no hay demasiado tension en las batallas, sabemos que Superman va a ganar y eso esta bien, por lo que los paneles se enfocan mas en hacer las batallas un poco mas calmadas, sin tomarse demasiado en serio lo que esta pasando en el campo de batalla, pero dandole a Superman voz y haciendo notar sus reflexiones.
El comic va mas alla y le da personajes secundarios como Louis Lane, Lex Luthor o el Doctor Leo Quintim roles importantes en las aventuras de Superman, cada uno demostrando el como ve el hombre de acero a la humanidad, Louis Lane siendo el ancla de su humanidad mientras que los demas personajes representan emociones que van desde la esperanza hasta la inherente maldad en el ser humano, todos tambien tienen paneles en donde se nos pone un poco mas en contexto lo que significa Superman para cada uno de estos personajes y es refrescante ver desde los ojos de Jimmy Olsen a un Superman que es un simbolo de esperanza mientras que Lex Luthor lo ve mucho mas como un reto para su intelecto.
A pesar de que este es uno de los primeros comics que me lei en digital siento que tener en las manos una copia de esta saga debe ser increible, los paneles si bien el arte no es mi favorito tiene unas paginas en donde el arte es ICONICO y juntando este arte con el estudio constante a traves de los globos de texto hacen que la historia tenga un tinte mucho mas personal, aunque si hay grandes batallas cada historia se resuelve en su numero dandole una enseñanza mas de por que Superman es Superman.
Es una gran historia sobre todo para los que aun tengan como referencia al Superman de Zack Snyder, en All-Star nos presentan al personaje como un humano mas entre la multitud con la esperanza de que todos mejoremos y pudiendo ver el potencial que hay en cada uno de nosotros, hay tantos paneles de este comic que me encantan pero lo mejor es seguir la historia de cada volumen y las reflexiones que hace Superman en cada una de las situaciones en las que se enfrenta, no entiendo por que Warner Bros no ha querido adaptar por completo esta version del personaje pero espero verlo algun dia en la pantalla en todo su esplendor, mientras tanto se queda en las paginas del comic y me gusta que sea asi.
Es mi primer post por aca! no soy habitual lector de comics pero este es uno de los pocos que he conseguido agarrar desde pequeño y me ha fascinado desde hae mucho, es increible lo diferente que es la opinion publica de uno de los mas grandes superheroes a raiz de un par de malos films, pero esa es la realidad! yo hago mi parte aca para guiarte por algunas de las historias modernas mas refrescantes del superheroe. ;D

I don't think there is any doubt when I say that Superman is one of the most important superheroes (if not the most) in the history of comics and one of the most iconic characters of popular culture, from its beginnings taking inspiration from ancient mythological heroes and after almost a hundred years living adventures of the hand of different creatives in DC Comics asked an interesting question after so many issues: What makes Superman special?, of course here I can hear you behind the screen telling me that it is a stupid question, after all Clark Kent is not your average human and you can't say that he is a human at all, this question was asked by the writer Grant Morrison when he was hired to make a series of comics that introduced Superman to the readers of the new century, and it is this question that introduces us to one of the best stories of the man of steel.
I think the key word here is essence and how Superman over the years and stories has become a symbol of justice, of good triumphing over evil and in general of what it is to be a superhero, Grant Morrison had the task of encapsulating all these values in a story and I think that with All-Star Superman it becomes not only a universal story that can be understood outside the continuity of the DC universe but also a story told on foot, with many moments of introspection and where reflection and its characters are the basis of each of its panels, in my own words I would say that it is a celebration of the character.
There''s an anecdote about how writer Grant Morrison started doing the first sketches for All-Star Superman after seeing at a pre-interview convention a man in a Superman costume:
" He was sitting with one knee erect, chin resting on his arms. He looked totally relaxed...and I suddenly realized that this was how Superman was supposed to sit. He wouldn't puff out his chest or have a heroic posture, but would be totally calm. If nothing can hurt you, he can afford to be calm. A man like Superman would never have to be tense in the cold; he would never flinch in the face of a blow. He would just be totally relaxed."
Superman is dying.
After countless feats and helping millions of people his cells begin to deteriorate due to the high solar radiation he has been exposed to over the years, Clark Kent estimates that he has only a year to live and begins to reflect on the impact and legacy he leaves to the world. His relationship with Louis Lane, which in many media is put aside, becomes one of the main focuses of the plot that over the course of 12 issues embarks us on a series of adventures that seem unrelated to each other but in each of these we are answering the question of the beginning: This is Superman, as opposed to seeing him as an all-powerful god, the comic focuses much more on earthly stories of a superhero, a human, not like us but the best version we can be.
The 12 issue set begins with Superman in his best form, this is a separate story from his adventures with the Justice League but every now and then we get to see in his world that they exist and influence, however the main focus throughout the volumes is Superman and Clark Kent, the comic while it has several moments of action the truth is that there is not too much tension in the battles, we know that Superman is going to win and that's fine, so the panels focus more on making the battles a little calmer, without taking too seriously what is happening on the battlefield, but giving Superman a voice and noting his reflections.
The comic goes further and gives supporting characters such as Louis Lane, Lex Luthor or Doctor Leo Quintim important roles in Superman's adventures, each demonstrating how the Man of Steel views humanity, Louis Lane being the anchor of his humanity while the other characters represent emotions ranging from hope to the inherent evil in human beings, all also have panels where we are given a little more context as to what Superman means to each of these characters and it is refreshing to see from Jimmy Olsen's eyes a Superman who is a symbol of hope while Lex Luthor sees him as much more of a challenge to his intellect.
Even though this is one of the first comics I read in digital I feel that having a copy of this saga in my hands must be incredible, the panels while the art is not my favorite it has some pages where the art is ICONIC and putting this art together with the constant study through the text balloons makes the story have a much more personal tinge, although there are big battles each story is resolved in its issue giving you one more teaching of why Superman is Superman.
It's a great story especially for those who still have Zack Snyder's Superman as a reference, in All-Star we are introduced to the character as just another human in the crowd with the hope that we all get better and can see the potential in each of us, there are so many panels of this comic that I love but the best is to follow the story of each volume and the reflections that Superman makes in each of the situations in which he faces, I do not understand why Warner Bros has not wanted to fully adapt this version of the character but I hope to see it someday on the screen in all its splendor, meanwhile it remains in the pages of the comic and I like it that way.
This is my first post here! I'm not a regular comic book reader but this is one of the few I've managed to pick up since I was a kid and I've been fascinated by it for a long time, it's amazing how different the public opinion of one of the greatest superheroes is because of a couple of bad films, but that's the reality! I do my part here to guide you through some of the most refreshing modern stories of the superhero. ;D
