Las tierras que se esconden al otro lado del Muro/The lands that are hidden on the other side of the Wall.
Una de las cosas que más nos intriga del universo de Canción de Hielo y Fuego es lo que hay más allá del Muro, aquellas tierras de las que poco y nada conocemos; habitadas por salvajes llamados a sí mismos como hombres libres, lobos huargos y gigantes, entre otros criaturas misteriosas y como no… Los Otros, mejor conocidos en la serie de HBO como los Caminantes Blancos, en este artículo exploraremos un poco de ese misterio. Hoy viajaremos más allá del Muro a la parte más norte de Westeros.
One of the things that most intrigues us about the universe of Song of Ice and Fire is what lies beyond the Wall, those lands of which we know little and nothing; inhabited by savages called themselves free men, direwolves and giants, among other mysterious creatures and of course... The Others, better known in the HBO series as the White Walkers, in this article we will explore a little of that mystery. Today we will travel beyond the Wall to the northernmost part of Westeros.
Aún hay magia en aquellos bosques/ There is still magic in those forests.
Lo primero que podemos destacar sobre las tierras que quedan al otro lado del gran muro es la sensación de que hay algo sobrenatural en el aire… Todos los escenarios que acontecen más allá del Muro están cargados de un aura mágica, siniestra y sobrenatural, a pesar de que la saga de Canción de Fuego y Hielo es una saga con muchos tintes fantásticos y épicos, la “magia” como la conocemos o estamos acostumbrados no está del todo presente, al menos no en la gran mayoría del continente, pero en lado más norte, más allá del Muro se respira mucho de ella.
The first thing we can highlight about the lands on the other side of the great wall is the feeling that there is something supernatural in the air... All the scenarios that take place beyond the Wall are charged with a magical, sinister and supernatural aura, Even though the Song of Fire and Ice saga is a saga with many fantastic and epic dyes, the "magic" as we know it or are used to it is not completely present, at least not in the great majority of the continent, but on the more northern side, beyond the Wall, one breathes a lot of it.
El temor hacia el otro lado del Muro es más que evidente debido a su naturaleza sobrenatural y las historias que se cuentan de los salvajes entre otras criaturas que habitan entre la espesa nieve. Sin embargo, con el paso del tiempo estas historias se convirtieron en meras leyendas y cuentos de hadas o más bien de terror.
The fear of the other side of the Wall is more than evident due to its supernatural nature and the stories that are told about the savages among other creatures that inhabit the thick snow. However, over time these stories have become mere legends and fairy tales or rather terror
Al salir de la fortaleza…./ When you leave the fortress....
Lo primero que se encuentra al salir de la fortaleza de Castle Black es una enorme llanura blanca donde solía llegar la gran arboleda del espeso bosque que se extiende más allá… Dicha llanura tiene un motivo y es facilitar la vigilancia de los guardias que custodian la cima del muro para avistar a tiempo a los hombres salvajes e impedirles el paso. En los tiempos antiguos cuando la Guardia Nocturna contaba con suficientes miembros para cubrir todo el perímetro del Muro, dicha llanura se extendía a más de ochocientos pasos del Muro.
The first thing you find when you leave the Castle Black fortress is an enormous white plain where the great tree line of the thick forest that extends beyond used to arrive. This plain has a reason and that is to facilitate the vigilance of the guards who guard the top of the wall to see the wild men in time and prevent them from passing. In ancient times when the Night Watch had enough members to cover the entire perimeter of the Wall, this plain extended to over eight hundred steps from the Wall.
Este bosque es diferente, pareciera que está vivo y a pesar del duro clima sus árboles son enormes, gruesos y se extienden a kilómetros, en ocasiones cobijados por una espesa neblina, se le conoce como el Bosque Encantado y cubre gran extensión de las tierras más allá del muro llegando incluso a la región más Norte cartografiada en mapa conocido, las cordilleras de los Colmillos Helados.
This forest is different, it seems to be alive and despite the harsh climate its trees are huge, thick and extend for miles, sometimes sheltered by a thick fog, it is known as the Enchanted Forest and covers a large area of land beyond the wall reaching even the northernmost region mapped on a known map, the Frozen Fangs Mountains.
Agualechoza y por el otro lado, el mar.../ Agualechoza and on the other side, the sea...
El bosque encantado es atravesando y alimentado por un rio que nace justo en las fronteras Oeste del muro y se extiende y ramifica por gran parte del bosque hasta llegar terminar en la región Oeste de los Colmillos Helados, no se sabe exactamente en qué punto comienza y termina este rio pero es el más grande de todo el bosque y de él nacen los demás ríos que fluyen por el Bosque Encantado.
The Enchanted Forest is crossed and fed by a river that is born just on the western borders of the wall and extends and branches through much of the forest until it ends in the Western region of the Frozen Fangs, it is not known exactly at what point this river begins and ends but it is the largest of all the forest and from it the other rivers that flow through the Enchanted Forest are born.
Al Este del Gran Bosque tenemos las gélidas aguas del Mar de los Escalofríos, al igual que el río Agualechoza, el Mar de los Escalofríos comienza justo en el Muro, cerca de Bahía de Focas, pero no sabemos hasta donde termina pues nadie ha podido llegar a su parte más Norte aun debido a lo peligroso y traicionero de sus aguas pues en ellas hay enormes bloques de huelo tan duros como el acero que harían añicos a cualquier navío se cree que hay puntos del mar en donde sus aguas son blancas, quebradizas cubiertas por finas capas de hielo… En este mar se encuentran las islas de Ibben y Lejano Ib.
East of the Great Forest we have the icy waters of the Sea of Shivers, just like the Agualechoza River, the Sea of Shivers begins right at the Wall, near the Bay of Seals, But we do not know how far it ends because no one has been able to reach its northern part even due to the dangerous and treacherous nature of its waters. In these waters there are enormous blocks of ice as hard as steel that would shatter any vessel, it is believed that there are points of the sea where its waters are white, brittle and covered by thin layers of ice... In this sea are the islands of Ibben and Far Ib.
Las tierras Thenn/ The Lands Thenn .
Esta es una pequeña meseta que colinda con los Colmillos Helados, está ubicada en la región Noroeste conocidas de Westeros, una zona misteriosa y de muy difícil acceso ya que hay que atravesar los peligrosos Colmillos Helados para llegar allí. Esta región es habitada por los Thennitas, se conocen a sí mismos como los últimos de los Primeros Hombres; hablan la lengua antigua, son un pueblo bastante reservado y formaron parte del ejercito de Mance Rayder.
This is a small plateau that borders the Frozen Fangs, it is located in the known Northwest region of Westeros, a mysterious area and very difficult to access since you have to cross the dangerous Frozen Fangs to get there. This region is inhabited by the Thennites, who know themselves as the last of the First Men; they speak the ancient language, are a quite reserved people, and were part of Mance Rayder's army.
La cordillera de los Colmillos Helados/ The Frozen Fang Mountain Range.
Es un lugar increíblemente peligroso e inhóspito, de grandes y peligrosas montañas, está ubicada en la región más Noroeste del continente conocido, limitada por las Tierras Thenn y la tierra del Eterno Invierno, entre los mitos populares se cree que los Colmillos Helados son el lugar más salvaje y peligroso explorado, aterrador y habitado por unas pocas tribus de salvajes; algunas de ellas caníbales. Las tribus que en este lugar habitan también bajaron de estas enormes montañas para unirse al Rey más allá del Muro en su lucha contra la Guardia Nocturna.
It is an incredibly dangerous and inhospitable place, with big and dangerous mountains, located in the most North-Western region of the known continent, limited by Thenn Lands and the land of the Eternal Winter. Among popular myths, it is believed that the Frozen Fangs are the wildest and most dangerous place explored, terrifying and inhabited by some few tribes of savages; some of them cannibals. The tribes that inhabit this place also came down from these huge mountains to join the King beyond the Wall in his fight against the Night Watch.
Las Tierras del Eterno Invierno/ The Lands of Eternal Winter .
Más allá de todo territorio conocido, cubierto entre neblina y tormentosas ventiscas se encuentran las Tierras del Eterno Invierno, no tenemos datos oficiales ni canónicos de lo que hay en este lugar, su extensión o geografía son totalmente desconocido, no sé conoce de hombre que haya logrado poner un pie en estas tierras y volver para contar la historia…
Beyond all known territory, covered between fog and stormy blizzards are the Lands of Eternal Winter, we have no official or canonical data of what is in this place, its extent or geography are completely unknown, I do not know of man who has managed to put a foot in these lands and return to tell the story .
En el saber popular y la mitología de poniente, se cree que los Otros, o Caminantes blancos proceden de este lugar, así como los Niños del Bosque y los gigantes, los grandes lobos huargos y toda criatura que habitó alguna vez y reinó el extremo norte de Westeros, en algunas fuentes se habla incluso de enormes dragones de hielo… pero eso ya será para otra historia, lo cierto es que no hay región más misteriosa y tal vez aterradora en todo Westeros que aquella que se oculta entre el hielo y la nieve, en la frontera más al norte del mundo conocido…
In the popular knowledge and mythology of the West, it is believed that the Others, or White Walkers, come from this place, as well as the Children of the Forest and the giants, the great direwolves and every creature that once inhabited and reigned in the northern end of Westeros, Some sources even speak of huge ice dragons... but that will be for another story, the truth is that there is no more mysterious and perhaps frightening region in all of Westeros than that which is hidden between the ice and snow, on the northernmost border of the known world...

En lo que a regiones y geografía se refiere estas son las partes más importantes de las tierras que se hallan al otro lado del gran Muro, es un tema bastante largo, pero he intentado resumirlo lo mayor posible, en la segunda parte hablaremos más a profundidad de lo que hay en cada región ya mencionada.
