Hi fellow DIY’rs,
Today I wanted to share a great little trick my wife showed me for keeping Christmas lights neat and stress free for the next year!
Just a Little Knot
Christmas vacation movie quote anyone? Lol one of my favorites.
So last year was the first year we got a big tree for Christmas because we had the space for it and we had a toddler who was just getting into it so we figure go big. What that meant though was buying a lot of Christmas lights! If you’ve had to put away and take those things out you know they they can get in a brutal knot and mess. Thankfully with this little trick the lights are completely headache free!
This is one of the many piles of lights the other day lol.
So it’s pretty easy actually! If you get a bunch of slices of a cardboard box like this, get the long not so wide ones and get them ready.
You have to make a little notch in one of the ends to get it all started.
Once you have the lights in the notch just wrap them around until you are finished and notch the other end! I would recommend stringing it along the box the way that the cord wants to go. Never force an electrical cord to bend a certain way otherwise you will ruin the cord. If you just pick the cord up in the air and let it naturally spin it will get itself straightened out so you won’t have to fuss with it. Makes them last a lot longer!
Now when you put the lights in the box it’s a hundred times easier to get them not only in the box neatly but it also is a piece of cake next year when you go to take them out for the Christmas tree to get decorated again!
Life is full of these fun little tricks, it just takes some time to learn of them! I’m glad my wife told me about it, it’s been a breeze since we did it last year and now this year.
