Winter lockdown on a Sunday in UK is the best time to continue making my acrylic pour coasters Christmas presents for my family. It's a really messy job, best done with bare hands to get a better grip. But with the cold weather, it takes ages to wash my hands clean afterwards in the cold water, so I've been putting it off for a few weeks. Today I decided to do it wearing some household gloves (surgical ones would have worked a lot better but they're really expensive nowadays), just see how messy things can get, and this is after I've cleaned up!
I poured 5 sets of coasters today, each set has 4 coasters. I try to make each set different so when I gift them to my family members everyone has something very different at home. My favourite out of all the ones I did today is the one in the first image. It's the first time I've poured black coasters.
But as a set of coasters at home, I personally prefer bright colours like the green and red ones. Those were done using a different technique not pouring. Not sure what it's called but basically I add paint on one tile, kiss the other one on top and lift with a twist.
The other fun thing with all this is the unexpected results. You never know what you will end up with, and you can see something different at every angle. For example, I ended up with a face on the left one below, and a goddess holding a torch in the one on the right. Do you see that, or do you see something else?
Today I also poured on a little wooden box. I did some the other week but poured on the lid and box seprately. The end result wasn't very good (see below) as it is very difficult to get two pieces to match nicely when you pour them separately. This time, I decided to keep the lid on top of the box and pour it as one single item. It looks much more complete. The only problem is when I have to open up the box once the paint has dried. I'm worried the edges might tear and spoil the look.
RESULTS OF NOVEMBER PUD GUESSING CONTEST
I poured some boxes a few weeks ago. Because I knew (after I had poured the box) it was impossible to pour a matching lid for the box, I decided to use another technique called string pull to keep the lids nice and simple. The boxes were all paired to make sure they fit perfectly once I put the hinges back on. My quessing contest was to guess which of these five lids belonged to the box in the center.
I've paired them all up here, and the result is number 2.
