Today I want to publish my first post into the Insects Of The World Comunity, presenting the Mylon maimon, Common mylon or Black-veined mylon.
Scientific Classification of Mylon maimon
Mylon is a gennus of skipers in the family Hesperiidae. They are called skippers because they have a fast and erratic flight.
The caterpillars are cylindrical, with a large head
This species is specially interesting because looks like a moth, but is diurnal and have abscence of wing coupling structure, wich is available in most moths.

Distribution of the butterfly
Mylon maimon is found from Argentina to Colombia and Bolivia, north to Mexico. It is found at heights ranging from sea level to about 1800 meters.
Common Apearance
- Size: 3 cm
- Head: 6mm, brown
- Wings: brown, white and beige. The veins of the anterior wing do not have branches, all starting from the base of the wing or the cell; they have five radial veins.
- Antenna: They are characterized and differentiated from other families of butterflies by their widely separated antennae at the base, with a pointed and generally curved hook-shaped antennae.
The Mylon features a winglenth of 3 cm.
The head, thorax & abdomen are brown
The wings are white, brown and beige.
I would have liked to present more photos taken from different angles but Mylon moves very fast and with the afternoon sun was difficult for me to capture it from below or from behind.
