In my previous post, I have posted about Malaysia Carpenter Ant. I do not know much about this ant. All I know, there is an abundance of this ant at a flower bed within the playground area.
This particular ant was seen while I was looking for insect to photograph. The ant was alone and seems like it was looking for something. I follow the ant around with my clip on macro lens.
I was actually quite hard following the ant around. It was moving really fast and was trying it best to avoid me. I am also trying my level best to photograph a clearer picture of the ant.
Personally, I felt below pictures were the best among all shots that I've taken. From the picture, you can clearly see the ant head mandible, eyes, body and legs.
If you notice, the ant body is black in color. However, the abdomen of the ant is golden yellow-ish in color. This ant is also not as aggressive if to compare with weaver ant.
As I mentioned earlier, I really do not know much about these black ants. Based on an online article that I read, these black ants will took estimated 3 to 6 years to establish a large and stable colony. The link to the online article is as follows: https://www.rentokil.com.my/ants/species/
Below is a bit of fun fact regarding to ants:
Like all insects, an ant's body is divided into three main parts: the head, the thorax, and the abdomen. Ants have a hard, waterproof exoskeleton, which is made of a material called chitin. They are exceptionally strong for their size: they can lift 10 times their own weight! : https://harvardforest.fas.harvard.edu/ants/body-structure
