Last weekend, I brought my daughters ( &
) to a river nearby Klang Gate Dam. My wife was also with us. The reason we were there is because (i) my daughters wanted to bath in the river, and (ii) I wanted to look for insects / spiders for my macro photography.
My wife was watching over them while they were playing in the river. I take a stroll at nearby tree and bushes try to find a subject. Then I saw something moving on top of a tree leaf not far from where I was standing.
From far, it look like a spider. But the size was way more bigger than most spider that I've encountered at the area. Intrigued, I move closer to the leaf to identify what type of spider it is.
I've never seen a spider like this one. The spider was oval in shape and unlike typical spider that has eight (8) eyes. This spider only have two (2) small eyes on top of its body. The spider only has seven (7) legs out of eight. I noticed one (1) of the leg were missing.
Its was moving real slow on top of the leaf. Due to its size, I am a bit afraid to go nearer. I am not sure whether the spider will bite a human, and is it venomous. Hence, I maintain a distance that I feel safe enough.
Once I got home, I straight away made a google image search for this spider. Below is the result. To my surprise, the spider that I saw, is not even a spider. It is known as Harvestmen.
Although superficially similar to and often misidentified as spiders (order Araneae), the Opiliones are a distinct order that is not closely related to spiders. They can be easily distinguished from long-legged spiders by their fused body regions and single pair of eyes in the middle of the cephalothorax.: Wikipedia Source Link
