One of the four black triremes, some of the most powerful airships to fly over Rossbera, the Pherazmil is a sister ship to the Zaphnora. Each of the four airships has a unique attribute, and in the case of the Pherazmil the ship features very overt chaos iconography and is as much a black temple as it is a war machine.

The "black" aspect of the black triremes is twofold: first, the colour scheme, and second, they were built in secret. The story of the Pherazmil's construction is the very reason for it being so decorated in the exact way that it is.

The rear tower has a design that more closely resembles an altar than a fighting platform. This is no coincidence, as it was built as a chaos shrine before it became part of an armoured airship.

Lost souls were drawn to this fell structure, which was located in uninhabited land to the northwest of the Karadenian border, and as they gathered to venerate the primordial powers, they worked to build the airship.

Despite a decisive Karadenian victory against nearly impossible odds at the Battle of Xiamazdu, the spirit of Karadenian nationalism was still failing. The Milaius Dynasty stubbornly clung to its Arcadian trappings, and were thus seen as outsiders in a country that, culturally, was still Minkutian. It was not uncommon for communist rabble-rousers to conflate "Arcadian" with "aristocracy," and "Minkutian" with "proletariat," in spite of plenty of exceptions to this trend. However, Karadenian history being what it was, the siren song of communism fell upon deaf ears in many circles. A lot of Karadenians embraced an alternative to both the Arcadian rulers and to communism, and that alternative was the return of the Old Gods. The star of chaos pointed the way to the restoration of Minkutian society.

Thousands of years had passed since the "Old Gods" ruled Minkut. Their dynasty ended with Cheya Redeye, the last true emperor, before a cabal of self-styled sorcerers took control of the country. So ancient were these tales that few had heard them, and even fewer believed them, but those who did remembered the Sign of the Red Eye, which was closely associated with Cheya. Once the ancient symbol, which had been outlawed by the sorcerers, started appearing again, those devoted to the idea of the Old Gods' return began to seek its source. From there, they encountered, in all their winged glory as the stories told, the chuyinka, who promised to take back what was once theirs.

Much blood was spilled upon the altar, as more and more worshipers of the Old Gods gathered, bringing, bound in chains, those whom they saw as the greatest threats to Minkutian culture. Initially, this was limited to those cultural progressives who sought to blend Arcadian and Minkutian culture together. However, as communism gained support throughout Karaden, communists found themselves being "sacrificed" as well.

With all the blood spilled upon the altar before it was finally raised from the ground and installed on the Pherazmil, many of those who had come to build and operate the airship said that it became infused with a bloodthirsty spirit (to my fellow 40K players, in other words, the Pherazmil is rumoured to be a daemon engine), and that the mighty war machine hungered for battle and slaughter. The chuyinka encouraged this rumour to spread, hoping to inspire paranoia among aeronauts about an evil, indestructible flying machine that could destroy them at any moment.

Of course, given that the black triremes were among the most powerful war machines ever built, not much exaggeration was required to give them an utterly mortifying reputation. In fact, the Pherazmil earned its reputation as soon as it took off. The Karadenian Secret Police had taken note of the various activities in the area, ever since the reappearance of the ancient Sign of the Red Eye. They found out about the construction of the black trireme, but by the time they were able to deploy forces to the site, it was too late. The Pherazmil took off, turned round, and blasted its attackers into oblivion. The Karadenians brought their greatest weapon - the flying galleon - but it was ordered to retreat to Xiamazdu the very instant the agent leading the mission realised that it stood no chance against the much larger and more heavily-armed trireme. Galvanised by the ease of their first victory, the chaos worshipers needed little rest before they were ready for the next fight - which came within hours. The Pherazmil headed toward Xiamazdu, easily keeping pace with the galleon. Once the galleon was over the city, however, the Pherazmil closed the distance, broadcasting a message to the city's inhabitants, one which included the line "death to the false emperor," before blasting the galleon to bits with its 21-cm guns.

Among the witnesses to this fiery entrance was Marina Mei Szuong, another agent of the Karadenian Secret Police, but also a member of a secret society called the Stalwart Order of the Iron Rose. She watched in horror, not only as the very ship that had played such a key role in defending the city against Taressimian forces, was destroyed, but also as shuttered windows began to open, displaying the Sign of the Red Eye all over. The people of Xiamazdu had taken the side of the invaders! Szuong had no choice but to flee, though her destination wasn't the capital.

The various symbols of chaos were well-known to the Order of the Iron Rose. The order had a seething hatred of chaos, and while most of its members were indoctrinated simply to believe that chaos was a negative force of nature, the inner circle actually knew about the existence of the chuyinka and their long history of using chaos in both a physical and metaphysical sense to undermine the "perfect order" that they believed should be. Szuong did not belong to the inner circle, but she became privy to this knowledge after revealing to her superiors "a new enemy." The order's worst fears were realised when Urya Goldfeather sent the Pherazmil on a mission for his colour-kin (a term that chuyinka use to denote individuals who share similar plumage and thus the same surname, but are not closely related) Alya. The airship Iron Rose had previously repulsed an attack from the White Spider, a chaos gunboat, and before that, had a very long history of easily defeating sky pirates. Once the Pherazmil was sent after it, however, the order's fate was sealed.
