“Punktronic Disco Dirge – 003! (A Pirate Radio Show)” by Richard F. Yates
Hey Folks, I’m back with another batch of tunes. This time I’m bouncing all over from the late ‘70s all the way up to 2018! Again, it’s EXTREMELY hard to decide what to play, and I tried NOT to bring any notes or anything that might influence my choices, and just pick tracks on the fly, depending on what’s been on my mind. I’m happy with the mix---but that makes sense. I picked the songs, so I’m going to pick tracks that I enjoy! (Ha!) There’s some new wavey, gothy kind of stuff, some ska, drum and bass, hard edged electro, and even a ballad-esque track (or two), along with whatever Klaatu is… Space pop? Psychedelic disco? I don’t know…
Anyways…Here’s the TUNES!!!!
Punktronic Disco Dirge – Episode 003
(approx.. 1 hour and 1 minute long)
[DJ spills his drink---like right on the mixing board. (I wish there was a way to automate his contribution.) Then he talks about Hell and religious studies for some reason… Seriously. I don’t get it. If he wasn’t related to the Sub-Atomic Pirate Radio Satellite’s owner---he’s the son, of course---I’d fire his ass!!!]
Ben Weasel – “Strangers” from Fidatevi (2002)
Brilliant – “Scream Like an Angel” from The Whip (1993)
Future Forward Society & Mount Sims – “The Creep (Capri Mix)” from The Creep EP (2008)
[Jabber jabber jabber…]
The Cure – “A Night Like This (Hello Goodbye Mix 2018)” from Mixed Up (Deluxe Edition) (2018)
Bruce Haack & Esther Nelson – “Upside Down” from Stone Fox (2000)
Pixies – “Wave of Mutilation (U.K. Surf)” from Pump Up the Volume (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (1989)
The Specials – “Little Bitch” from Specials (2002) (orig. released in 1979)
[Blah blaaaaaaah… The DJ thinks he knows so much, but he don’t know SHIT!]
Klaatu – “Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft” from 3:47 EST (1976)
Empire of the Sun – “DNA (Brodinski Remix)” from DNA (Remixes) EP (2013)
Patrick Wolf – “Tristan” from Wind in the Wires (2005)
The Baby Namboos – “ANCOATS2ZAMBIA (Dillinja Remix)” from ANCOATS2ZAMBIA (1999)
[DJ clinks and plinks and flinks around, trying to decide if he has enough time to play any more songs. He DOES, but he says his goodbyes before these last two tracks play! Lucky for the listener. Or listeners…if there are two this time…]
Black Flag – “Wasted” from The First Four Years (1983)
X-Ray Spex – “The Day the World Turned Day-Glo” from Germfree Adolescents (1978)
And that, dear peeps, is THAT!
All songs showcased in the broadcast are intended for educational / appreciation purposes only. If you enjoy any of these songs, we on the Sub-Atomic Satellite recommend finding and PURCHASING the tracks---especially for those performers who are still alive and need to eat! Thanks!!!
