To follow on from my earlier post, this is part two, and these were my first shots of the night, so I was pretty happy with these.
The model in these shots is called Charlie Caroline, who is a very experienced model. After a few nerves of being in the dark, in the woods, with high heels! she was a pro.
I tweaked the lighting a little to start the shoot, rear flash on maximum with orange, then purple / pink gels, and a softboxed flash at the front, possibly on 1/16th power if I remember correctly?
After this Charlie started to pose as I shot.
This first shot was taken after things started flowing more and Charlie was happy to hold the smoke pellets rather than them being left on the ground. As per a shoot a few years ago, I asked her to start with both smoke pellets above her head, bring them down in front of her, and thats when I would take the shot to get the smoke trail. This was definitely the best of the bunch..
The next shots were what I had initially envisioned, torso shots in the smoke and backlit. I like the colour of the gel too for these types of images, it has a Disney baddie feel to it!
Going back to the beginning, the initial shots were taken using an orange gel and I placed the smoke on the ground. They worked, but didn't have the effect that I wanted, but still looked suitably eerie..
Finally, I had to go manochrome, just out of curiosity and I'm so glad that I did!
Equipment Used Nikon D60 with 24-85mm lens, Yongnuo flash guns, gels and smoke
Thanks very much for looking,
