Hello #hivediy friends! Today I want to show you a lion mask I made last week. It's the first Lion mask I've made, and it's also the first time I've used paper mache for any craft.
Hola amigos de #hivediy! Hoy les quiero mostrar una máscara de León que hice la semana pasada. Es la primera máscara de León que hago, y también es la primera vez que utilizo papel maché para alguna manualidad.
The first materials I used were:
- a balloon.
- paper cut in small pieces.
- water and glue mixture.
Los primeros materiales que utilicé fueron:
- un globo.
- papel cortado en trozos pequeños.
- mezcla de agua con pega.
The first thing I did was inflate the balloon to the size of my face and lined it with the water and glue mixture and the cut paper. I gave it about two layers of paper to make it a little sturdy.
Lo primero que hice fue inflar el globo del tamaño de mi cara y lo forré con la mezcla de agua y pega y el papel cortado. Le di unas dos capas de papel para que quedara un poco resistente.
Then I let it dry for about 5 hours, so that all the glue would dry sufficiently and the paper would be firm when I broke the balloon.
Luego lo dejé secar aproximadamente por 5 horas, de modo que toda la pega secara lo suficiente y el papel estuviera firme al romper el globo.
For the paper mache mixture, I used the rest of the water and glue mixture, added a little more glue and very small pieces of torn paper.
Para la mezcla de papel maché, utilicé el restante de la mezcla de agua con pega, le agregué un poco más de pega y trozos muy pequeños de papel rasgado.
I kneaded it with my hand until all the paper was broken and a paste was left, as shown in the photo.
Lo amasé con la mano hasta que todo el papel se rompió y quedó una pasta, como se muestra en la foto.
When the balloon was completely dry, I cut it in half to begin shaping the mask.
Cuando el globo ya estuvo completamente seco, lo corté a la mitad, para comenzar a darle forma a la máscara.
On the half I chose, I drew the lion's face and cut out the holes for the eyes and mouth.
En la mitad que escogí, dibujé la cara del león y recorté los orificios de los ojos y la boca.
And with the papier-mâché mixture I began to sculpt the lion's snout and eyebrows.
Y con la mezcla de papel maché comencé a esculpir el hocico y las cejas del león.
And I let it dry for more than 12 hours, on the other half of the paper balloon, to serve as a support.
Y lo dejé secar por más de 12 horas, sobre la otra mitad del globo de papel, psra que sirviera como soporte.
To make the lion's mane, I used:
- Yellow construction paper.
- Ruler and scissors.
Para hacer la melena del león, utilicé:
- Cartulina amarilla.
- Regla y tijeras.
I cut a piece of cardboard 24 cm high and folded it in half, horizontally. I glued the ends together with a cylinder and made a 1 cm fold, and then began to cut the cardboard as shown in the photo.
Corté un trozo de cartulina de 24 cm de alto y lo doblé por la mitad, de forma horizontal. Pegué los extremos con cilicón e hice un doblez de 1 cm, para después comenzar a cortar la cartulita tal y como lo muestra la foto.
With the other part of the paper balloon, I cut out the two ears of the lion.
Con la otra parte del globo de papel, recorté las dos orejas del león.
To color the mask, I decided to use yellow, orange, dark brown and light brown crepe paper.
Para darle color a la máscara, decidí usar papel crepé amarillo, anaranjado, marrón oscuro y marrón claro.
I used light brown crepe paper for the muzzle, dark brown for the nose and yellow for the rest of the face, including the ears.
El papel crepé marrón claro lo utilicé para el hocico, el marrón oscuro para la nariz y el amarillo para el resto del rostro, incluyendo las orejas.
I glued the yellow cardstock mane and then added a smaller one with the orange crepe paper.
Pegué la melena de cartulina amarilla y luego agregué una más pequeña con el papel crepé anaranjado.
Next, I gave another layer of yellow crepe paper to the Lion's face and reinforced the inside of the mask with paper.
Después, le di otra capa de papel crepé amarillo al rostro del León y reforcé con papel el interior de la máscara.
Finally, I glued on the earflaps and added two paper fangs, to make it look like a fierce Lion.
Por último, pegué las orejeras y le añadí dos colmillos de papel, para que se viera como un León feroz.
