¡Hola artesanos!❤️✨./Hello artisans! ❤️✨
What my mom says is true, and what do I mean, you might ask? Well, I mean, although I'm not very good at transforming or remodeling clothes—I'd say it's more of a talent you're born with—well, I try, and my attempt today is to try not to destroy this cute pair of panties I bought at my friend's thrift store. To tell you the truth, they were barely worn, but I got it into my head to want to turn them into two identical pieces. But why? Well, I'll tell you in the next paragraph.
It turns out I needed two pieces: first, a pair of shorts for lounging at home, and second, much more important, a top for when we go to the pool, beach, etc. It occurred to me that I could cut the fabric above the waistband of the shorts, so I decided to get to work like any good seamstress, trying not to damage or ruin it since it was too pretty for that. I liked that black print with vertical stripes, and when I saw it, I bought it from my friend. Besides being inexpensive, I decided to wear it, but I didn't like it because it rode up too high and was too tight. So I said, "Let's transform it!" And today I'm bringing you the tutorial so you can see how it went from being a simple pair of shorts to a cute top and shorts set in a few simple steps. Let's get started with the materials!

Paso 01
Step 01
At first, I simply unpicked the side seams of the panties without going under the legs; I only unpicked vertically up to where the waistband seam reaches. In this case, I removed the ribbons that were used to make the knot and then sewed them back on. Then I stretched my piece out, folded it in half, and positioned the elastic from the waist up to know how much to cut and sew around the waistband of my pants.
Paso 02
Step 02
I used the width of the elastic I would use to determine the width of the waistband and proceeded to cut right to the edge where the elastic is. I opened the panties and then proceeded to sew the sides where I had unstitched to remove the strips that the panties had. I sewed with an overlock machine (you can sew it with a zigzag stitch if you don't have an overlock machine, anything goes).
Paso 03
Step 03
In this third step, we're going to sew the elastic. We start in the first photo on the left, sewing the elastic securely to the width of our waist. We join it and reinforce it with a seam. Then we sew it on the inside with a stitch along the edge. While sewing, we stretch it, of course, so that it stretches the same as the waistband of the shorts. Next, we hem the elastic to the inside and sew it with a straight stitch to create our waistband. As a final step, we sew the straps to the sides, placing them on top of each side. With this, we finish sewing the shorts.
Paso 04
Step 04
In the next step we will be making the top. To do this, once I have separated the pieces of both the blouse and the shorts, we will be sewing the thin elastic right on the bottom edge of the top. In the same way that we sewed for the waistband of my shorts, we will sew it the same way, we pass a straight stitch and finish decorating the top on the front with a gathering of elastic of the same and that's how it is finished.

Look at the beautiful results of both pieces and how they look together! It's definitely a radical change from how they look as a single garment. I don't usually like clothing transformations, but seeing the final results always feels just as satisfying as sewing and finishing a garment you made from scratch 😌😍. If you liked this tutorial, don't forget to share it! You know you can now transform your underwear and give them a big makeover by turning them into other garments. Greetings, friends, until the next tutorial!
